I also have a long-haired black kitty. Her sister is a tuxedo.

One year ago this weekend, I had to make that hard choice for their mom. She came to me as a feral and in the process of teaching me how to be a kitty mom, stole my heart. She had her daughters on my patio and let me touch her newborn girls shortly after birth.

They all moved indoors and became house only cats.

Mom cat, Margarita, had bone cancer and the vet wanted to amputate her leg in order to give me a little bit more time with her. She would have to have been isolated from the other cats and I knew that would be torture for her. She was my shadow and slept on my bed with me. I couldn't put her through that for my own benefit, so I had to say good-bye.

Our furry friends are with us such a short time. It's amazing how they manage to fill that short time with so much love.
