I think that may have been something back during Edward the VII reign.
If you think those made for TV stories are true, nope, nothing could be further from the truth. Break open English books and there is even differing stories amongst the authors.

@stuyvesant Several publications wrote about this tradition and labelled it as true. Here is one example: https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/a38208317/queen-elizabeth-weighs-guests-kate-middleton-prince-....
The Queen won't host a large gathering at Sandringham because of the explosion of he Omicron virus in Great Britain, a prudent decision on her part.

That's what I thought it went back some yrs. ago. I still doubt the present Queen would do something like that.

Maybe someone was telling Diana that in hopes of her gaining 3 pounds in light of her eating disorders?
Sounds bogus to me. Or was said as a joke.

I have read this many times for many years. I think it is true.
The Royals Christmas is very different. They give gag gifts and play games on Christmas Eve. The weigh-in is supposed to be fun, though I don't think I'd enjoy that.

Kate goes in at 80 comes out 80 and a quarter.

I think the takeaway from this is that if you like the royal family you can dismiss the creepier aspects of the royal family.

I had an English mother and heard about this tradition before. I believe it but imagine a few guests manage to avoid the scales.

It seems to be a tradition that dates back to Edward Vll's reign in the early 1900's. time. It supposedly started by the king to see that his guests had a good time and were well fed. It supposedly occurs at Sandrigham estate in Norfolk, using a pair of antique scales. I think there is no reason to disbelieve this. In 2018, Ingrid Stewart, the editor of Magesty Magazine and author of several books on the royal famiy, was interviewed and confirmed this story. This would still not be confirmation from a member of the family, but the lady is considered credible.
