Fascinating; thanks. It  looks a bit  like some of the islands off of Scotland.

No dentist?   I would last a couple of months at most!  The "wee" hospital is not a comforting thought.  I think it would terrify me to be so remote from crucial services.  But I suppose if one is born there it different.  They are probably a healthy, hardy bunch, aside from the asthma.

I always wonder about that too, @Bookplate .  Apparently they have a cadre of dentists and physicians that rotate in and out.  Ditto their clergy, I think.

 

Imagine what it must have been like in the past.  If you were about to give birth, and had complications-- but the appropriate facilities and doctors are 1500 miles (a week's boat trip) away in Capetown!  That is scary!
