I loved Brian May for years and thought he was one of the most gifted guitarists and song writers but I had no idea of the following:

May be an image of 2 people and text that says 'Brian May, an astrophysicist who collaborated with the team behind New Horizons, the first spacecraft to explore Pluto is better known as the lead guitarist of Queen. Photo courtesy of ESO/G. Huedepohl wikimedia @factsweird'

Re: A Multi-Talented Gifted Man

Gifted and talented students become gifted and talented adults. I taught gifted and talented students. They are rare. We have a few adults in the public eye who are clearly gifted and talented. Spending time with them or having a conversation is exhilarating.

I had no idea about Brian May. Thank you for sharing.

I knew about him being an astrophysicist, but did not know about New Horizons.  Very, very cool!

Re: A Multi-Talented Gifted Man

I watched a Buddy Holly documentary awhile ago and Brian May was one of the speakers who praised Buddy to the nth.  He also admired Ricky Nelson.  I found his comments to be interesting and impressive as I love Holly and Nelson.

I wasn't aware that Brian is an astrophysicist, also very impressive and an insight into someone I only knew as a great guitarist   Thanks for sharing,Brian's amazing talents!!!!!

Re: A Multi-Talented Gifted Man

Brian is outstanding, but none of the other members of Queen were slouches either. From Google.....

Each member of Queen has their own college degree. Brian May earned his PhD in astrophysics in 2007. Freddie Mercury had a degree in graphic art and design. John Deacon has a degree in Electronics, and Roger Taylor has a bachelor's degree in biology.

Re: A Multi-Talented Gifted Man

Not only is he a brilliant musician, but he is obviously intellectually brilliant as well. I never hear anything negative about him, either, seems to be humble and very well-liked. Imagine the discipline it took to be on top of the world as a member of one of the most popular groups of all time and to go back after more than 30 YEARS and complete your Ph.D.! A life well lived.
