Two weeks ago my aunt, who has been someone I speak with weekly since my mom passed away, was rushed to the hospital after being found unconscious in the bathroom.
Doctors didn't give our family much hope. Her heart stopped several times on the way to the hospital and more when she was there. Emergency room doctors were able to get her heart started again and eventually she was put in ICU on life support. The prognosis was grim. If she survived the heart attacks, 7 in total, she probably would be severely brain damaged because of the lack of oxygen.
We, family and friends, started praying. While she held on for the next few days she was on so many medications that they didn't think she would survive if they took her off any of them. The told my uncle and cousin to start making plans. The third day a new doctor showed up...why we don't know. He changed her medications and some of her treatments and my aunt started to make huge steps towards recovery.
She had had a blood clot move from the lungs to her heart. As the doctor watched her each day she improved. In order to check if there was any heart or brain damage they wanted to do an MRI and Cat scan. But she had to be stable in order to move her.
After a week of getting her blood pressure under control they were able to do the test. Though they had taken her off medications that kept her in a coma like state she was still not responding to anyone. The tests showed no heart damage and no visible brain damage but only her responses would truly indicate if she had any brain damage.
My aunt started responding to commands, move your finger, squeeze my hand.
Saturday she was taken off the ventilator and is able to breathe on her own and is able to communicate with everyone around her. If there is any brain damage it has yet to show itself.
Sunday she was moved out of ICU and into another room.
Yesterday the nurses had her standing up next to her bed. The doctors believe she will make a complete recovery. After 7 heart attacks, a blood clot, and hanging to life by a thread my aunt will be okay.
I just had to share how excited I am that God decided to answer our prayers with a yes.
I hope you find some inspiration from her story.
