A LOVELY GESTURE TO THE RAVAGED CATHEDRAL, MUCH APPRECIATED

"The Times of Israel" is reporting that two Jewish women, philanthropist Lily Safra, and L'Oreal owner Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, have pledged a total of 122 million to the restoration of Notre Dame.  Extraordinarily generous outreach of this sort is so heart-warming.

I love how people will pull together when something tragic happens, whether it concerns humankind itself, or the most precious representations of what we hold dear.

It's wonderful that wealthy people have offered to fund reconstruction of the Cathedral.  But the story that touched me is that of three African-American churches in Lousiana that were recently destroyed by an arsonist.  A GoFundMe page for their benefit had raised only $100k through Monday morning. But by Wednesday afternoon, the campaign had raised $1.4 milion.  The surge has been attributed to social media postings using the Notre Dame tragedy to inform others about the Louisiana tragedies.

Yes, that is so wonderful and generous.  We are all children of the same God.  May they be blessed for their generosity.
