Re: A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW

@NativeJax  I'm not sure how Dillard's and Belk could block Macy's.   That sounds like an urban legend or something, because there are many malls that have Dillard's and Macy's including the one closest to me.   Doubt Macy's is interested in leasing mall space since they're closing stores including the one I mentioned.   Malls are desperate to lease space to anyone with the means to pay rent.   I doubt these two companies could keep mall management from leasing any space.

Re: A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW

Doesn't concern me larger company purchased IM line. Adore his clothes (most) fact Iam not weathy his price points allow me access to clothes might not ever be able to afford normally. Loreal purchased IT several months ago, Not unsurprising. Happens all the time. My comment wealthy women shopping QVC certainly not the super rich, meant upper middle class. Yes, Belive they are shopping. Look at the gems and gold items sell continually.

@Kachina624....

No urban legend...the paper even wrote an article about it. This was several years ago, yes, now Macy's is struggling like most retailers.

Re: A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW

I couldn't post the link but here is a portion of a response Macy's gave last summer as to why no Jacksonville store:

Dear S.W.: For years, Jacksonville residents have been yearning for a Macy’s. In reader polls conducted in 2000 and 2015, Macy’s is always at the top. And for years, there have been rumors that Macy’s would open a store here, especially when the St. Johns Town Center was built.

We posed your question to Melissa Goff, vice president of media relations and cause marketing for Macy’s. In an email response, Goff said: “Presently, Macy’s has no plans of opening a store in the Jacksonville market. We encourage our customers to continue to enjoy the benefits of shopping on macys.com 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

Asked specifically if Dillard’s being an anchor store was a factor, she said the statement spoke for itself.

It should be noted that the Times-Union reported in October that Macy’s announced that it would close 35 to 40 of its 770 stores during 2016. Jim Sluzewski, Macy’s senior vice president for corporate communications, told the Times-Union’s Roger Bull that “we are opening very few new full-line stores right now.”

And though it has long advertised on television stations here, he told Bull that the company, being a national business, advertises nationally to customers who have stores nearby and those who don’t. As you noted, the closest to Jacksonville are in Gainesville and Daytona Beach. They opened in the early ’80s as Burdines, which later merged with Macy’s.
