98 Facet Affinity Diamond Band Ring

I was turning through the channels and I came upon QVC presenting this Affinity ring. I am shocked at the price of this ring. It is $779 for diamond chips and a tiny amount of gold. Even in 18kt it doesn't warrant even HALF of this price. I am not cheap, I don't mind spending money on good, real gold jewelry but I cannot believe the nerve they have to charge for literally diamond chips (which are so very inexpensive) and a tiny amount of gold. It isn't even a half of a carat or diamonds and when you break it up like that into small diamonds, it is even more worthless.

I haven't watched any of the products today but are the rest of the prices this out of line? Is anyone else shocked at the price of this ring?

I cannot believe the prices I have seen on Affinity pieces in general. They are such small little poor quality diamonds. This ring could be purchased at even Belks for a couple of hundred dollars. Is anyone here really buying Affinity? I certainly don't mean to put anyone down but the quality of this jewelery doesn't warrant these prices at all. I guess it really shocked me to see this knowing you could get something much better at even high priced dept stores and get a MUCH better value at Ebay.

Have you priced VS diamonds that are near colorless lately?Smile

The prices can be quite high and parcels of VS quality diamonds are quite expensive, especially ones that are near colorless or better. All of the diamonds in that ring are full cut diamonds and not "chips." That's why the price is a bit higher than a similar ring that you could get in a store like Macys which are generally I1 and J color.

Even Blue Nile use SI diamonds with lesser color and charge about the same, so the ring you are referring to is not all that outrageous in price.SmileFull cut, near colorless, very slightly included diamonds are expensive in general.

Why does this even matter to the OP? People spend money on the time on products that others find wasteful or overpriced. Who are you to decide or criticize?

I am sure the OP spend money on things that others may find silly or poor values, and just as that is no one's business but the OP's, what others want to spend their money is no one's concern either.

I like some of their styles. Bought a necklace a few years back...which was a 1/4 carat of diamonds. I kept it because I liked the style. Now 1/4 carat is not much in the carat weight...but to this day I can NOT see the diamonds...I mean I even used a magnifying glass.

I too think the prices are too high for many of their items.

Croemer, Affinity diamonds have been upgraded in quality. I looked at the offerings of tennis bracelets and they are near colorless and VS quality. In the jewelry industry that is quite high and usually SI goods are selling for the same price QVC is now offering.Smile

I criticize QVC at times but this is one time where the customer is getting a good value. The specs also stated that they are using GIA standards to grade their merchandise.....the best.Smile

Of course anyone is free to buy what they want and I don't care KY, I realize that. I am just shocked at the price for so little.

SoftRainDrops, I am very much into jewelery and buy it from many places and I have to say this is very expensive for what you are getting. They are H in color which is greatly abundant and middle of the road and would be ok if we were talking about a bigger carat but these are TINY and VS is average at best especially since these are so small!

I guess it is just me. I see MUCH better values on Ebay, local jewelry stores and even dept stores. GEM network is a great place for jewelry as well. I bought morganite and diamond ring from there for $50 more and it had two .25 carats of diamonds on each side of the morganite that had better color and clarity. The morganite was just shy of 1 carat and it was set in 18kt gold.

Good to know. I have not bought a piece since then...it has been some where near 5-6 years ago.

H color is not abundant in commercial jewelry. Middle of the road color would be more I color J or K. VS diamonds in any size are NOT average. The average standard for diamonds in that sort of ring is usually I1.

As far as Ebay is concerned, there is a lot of fraudulent grading of some of the vendors that sell there. At least I trust QVC to not sell any diamonds marked VS, H color that are anything but. That is not the case for a lot of what Ebay sells.

Gem network has had numerous lawsuits for misrepresentation of the quality of their merchandise. Just a heads up....

The largest majority of diamonds sold in this country are H-I. They certainly are the most abundant.

I have bought many items from Ebay, estate sales, online and brick and mortar boutiques and take them all to my gemologist who also happens to live a couple doors down from me for him to check them and he also appraises all my jewelry for insurance purposes. He is least impressed with Q jewelry especially. 20 yrs ago they had a much better selection and quality, not so much today. I used to get a lot from here but not anymore. He has been in the business for over 30 yrs and says while a half carat VS diamond and up is good it is not as impressive when you are dealing with very small diamonds which these are. These are one o fthe most abundant gems in the world and certainly not worth this price.
