When I use to work, Saturday mornings were good for 2 hours worth of housecleaning and getting the ship back in the water, so to speak. Now I can spread the to do list out over 7 days. Love it.

@qualitygal You enjoy...
I am at loose ends if I don't have something to keep me busy until at least 2:00 ish...I need to learn to enjoy doing nothing, or what I want to do.....but thank goodness I still work 3 days a week.

Way to go! Can you come to Colorado and do my "to do" list? Busy day ahead.

We worked, worked late a lot, traveled for work way too much, drove 6 hours there and back 1 out of four weekends to see about relatives, cooked, washed clothes, dealt with repairs on cars and houses, and on and on.
I read what I want, do what I want, spend cleaning out closets and attics as I feel like it, keep the house ready for company, and don't have to work at anything for days.
I do not feel any need to work or be busy! LOL!!! ![]()

Haha! It's 9:48 and I'm still in bed browsing the internet and Q site. I'm a lazy slug!
My to do list for today is to go to the craft store and get a few items that I need for my handmade felting class on Wednesday. I will work on one of my projects too as well as a bit of laundry.

@qualitygal I used to be able to get my cleaning done in a couple hours on the weekend. I usually went into the office to get a few things done without being interrupted and the phones ringing.
I got groceries on the way home and then cleaned the house.
Now, being retired and 72, physically I can't do the cleaning in 2 or 3 hours. It drives me crazy. I do what I can and stop when my back protests too much. It's go, stop and rest my back, go again etc.
My DD does the heavy stuff and I feel bad. She leaves for work at 7:30am and isn't home until 6:30 at the earliest. She puts in a long day.

I love being "mostly" retired...putting in an hour or two weekly, working from home. In the interest of finances, I had to give up my bi-weekly cleaning lady, a major sacrifice! But, knowing this was coming, over the last year I bought some tools to make it easier for me to do it myself, like a cordless vaccuum that gets under most of the furniture, and a Bissell Cross wave that mops and vacuums at the same time. I can no longer do it all in one day, though. I spread most of it over 2-3 days, so house is always reasonably clean.
Right now, and from necessity, we're going thru bathroom renovations--been going on since early July. Hall bathroom is complete, master bath is in progress, but should be finished in 2-3 weeks. However, "stuff" from that bathroom is everywhere! I've set my makeup mirror and makeup on the DR table, hall rugs had to be rolled up a stuffed in a corner, things from the cabinets are stuck under a chair and on a stool in my bedroom. The tile installation has caused a lot of dust, and it's just a pain to try to do much more than a cursory cleaning right now. I'll be glad when construction is finished, and I can give my house a good, thorough cleaning and put everything back in order!

@vermint We just had our master bath & bedroom renovated this summer....the bath was gutted and everything is new. It took about six weeks to complete.
I LOVE how it turned out and looks but what a mess during the process!! Everything is finally back in its place and I have also gotten rid of a lot in the process.
We also need to have the hall bath freshened up and the two story foyer painted this spring. I was originally going to have it all done at the same time but just couldn't take the days on end mess. I'm going to use the same contractor and he told me that it should take him about a week to paint both the foyer & hall bath....I'm also getting shadow box molding in the foyer and new molding in the bathroom.
I have decided just to freshen up the hall bath but not replace what is there. The current tiles, tub, vanity sinks and counters are fine. I will get a professional to come in and clean the tiles and grout.
It feels great to have a fresh new look but living through it is not easy.

I totally agree with you.
I work and enjoy almost every minute; I also get to enjoy my love of working with color.![]()

@haddon9 It's definitely not easy! I'm so glad we waited til we weren't working full-time anymore, too--DH uses the hall bath and the master bath is mine, sharing one then the other has been a little inconvenient, to say the least. If both of us were trying to get ready for work 5 days a week...well, it wouldn't have been pretty!
The hall bath was less involved for us--we kept the vanity and toilet, but got rid of the sheet vinyl flooing, widened the shower, then tiled the floor and shower in the same tile. Makes the room look bigger. Painted, of course.
The master bath, except for some drywall, was a complete gut (we did save the toilet, lol!). That one got a wall cut back about 8 inches, no-threshold shower, new vanity/countertop and over the toilet cabinet. The tile is the same all the way through, except for an accent strip in the shower.
We were fortunate to have a contractor we know and trust. He employs excellent subs, who are as unobtrusive as possible and clean up after themselves.
It will all be worth it when it's done!
