You're not dumb at all.  It's a "numbers" thing.  Some people find it interesting, others not so much.

A contrived date distraction! About as "interesting" as my own birthday: 8/14/48. 

 If I have to get some meaning to it, which is mostly nonsense, I could bring out this arithmetic in which the two numbers 8 and 6 can be used to compute my birthday.

8+6=14

8x6=48

For me, it just meant I turned 76 a few days ago. No numerical machinations or spiritual connections to arithmetic . They're just numbers to me. I always enjoy my birthday. This year I was alone for it, though my brother and sister called me, and I had a fine day.

My birth month and date are the same as my birth year (the last 2 numbers of course!)

I once met someone who did also but not the same dates as mine.
