A woman had to be removed from an airliner yesterday after attacking a flight attendant. I just heard there were 8,000 incidents last year of disruptive passengers. I say the way people are crammed into planes, it's a wonder there aren't more than that. Where else do you sit thigh to thigh with a total stranger who may not be friendly and may be offensive in some way? And you may have to sit with minimal movement for hours on end. It creates a very stressful situation.

I don't fly often. However I think more people just don't give a rats behind about others, especially if they are trapped in a fuselage at umpteen thousand feet above the ground.

I think there's too much drinking mile high.

I think it's just the way people are today. Planes have never been roomy and it's always been uncomfortable sitting in those seats, and I'm not a large woman. There were rarely, if ever, disruptive passengers in decades past. Passengers always minded their own business by sleeping, reading a book or magazine, or doing work until the plane landed. It's very sad, because this bad behavior affects everyone and costs the airlines millions.

That number seems high until we realize that U.S. commercial flights are estimated to carry close to 800 million passengers this year. In that case, the number of disruptive passengers is 1/1000th of 1%. I personally fly more than 100,000 miles per year and have never seen a disruptive passenger.

I definitely agree. The airlines create many of their own problems by over-serving liquor. Then when they do finally cut someone off, he or she gets belligerent. I've gotten on flights at 7am and people order drinks like crazy.

For the most part, I fly on regional jets. I try to get the first flight of the day. I've traveled a fair amount for work and haven't had any issues with unruly passengers. One of the last flights I was on was over an hour late. The pilot apologized for being late. He said there was a passenger issue on the incoming flight and they couldn't take off until it was taken care of.

I agree the last time I flew which was a few years ago I felt positively claustrophobic. It was a trip to Orlando. Back when I first flew in a plane in the mid to late 80's it was roomier inside.

ITA! Too many people crammed in together with no personal space. It's not a surprise!
