Re: 7.2 Earthquake In Mexico

I wish I had been more appreciative of history back then. The stories my relatives could tell!

It's great that you both have some wonderful pictures of history.

OOOO, the city of paris! Their tree was gorgeous. Do you remember Blum's. My grandmother would take us there for lunch and dessert. Heaven. We always bundled up and went to see the Gumps windows at night.

Gumps still exists and has lovely things. But no longer family owned.

The City of Paris, I Magnin's and J Magnin's, and the Emporium. Yes! And lunch at Blum's with coffee crunch cake, or the old Piggly Wiggly for a hamburger. Woolworths across the street from the Emporium, a feast of makeup for those of us to young to wear it. The cable car turn-around where men in suits took part in moving those heavy old cars.

Blum's! We had one in Oakland. I never went to the one in The City. Did I mention ice cream is my favorite food?

I got my favorite coat at I Magnin's. I had to talk my mom into it because it was red. I was a strawberry blond and she said redheads cant wear red. Well, I rocked that coat. LOL I still like to wear red.

YOU get a gold star for "The City," done perfectly {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I didn't know there was a Blum's in Oakland. Did you know Fenton's ice cream in Oakland? That was family owned for decades.

You betcha redheads can wear red, you were just ahead of the curve!

Re: 7.2 Earthquake In Mexico

Noel, if you ever drive south there is a place called the Madonna in near San Luis Obispo that has a cake that is very very close to the coffee crunch cake. I would sell my soul for a Blum's fudge cake recipe.

My grandmother always called the city sampencisco--- all one word. The peninsula was "the country" lol!

She would never buy red for me as I am a strawberry blonde too. When I finally talked my father into buying me a red wool lanz dress I thought I had died and gone to heaven. My mother bought me a red coat for college. It was gorgeous. double breasted with beautiful gold buttons.
