I had just turned 3 years old when Kennedy was assasinated. I felt I grew up with JFK Jr
and remember being quite sad when he died in the plane accident. ![]()

I remember being dismissed from school - the nuns were crying and anxious parents awaited their children, standing behind the huge iron gate.
My parents were devastated as was the country. I also remember seeing Jack Ruby shoot and kill Lee Harvey Oswald.
So many years ago yet not forgotten. The beginning of a series of tragedies including RFK and Martin Luther King, Jr.

I was a sophomore in high school and in gym class. We were all huddled in an auditorium and listened to Walter Cronkite announce his time of death over a loud speaker. His voice was very emotional. The world stood still for days with constant coverage on tv...I'll never forget.

I remember as if it was yesterday. I was a freshman. First the announcement over that class intercom that he was shot and injured then... the announcement that our President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was dead. We were told to go to auditorium. Students were crying, running. Parents came to school. I remember being in the house by Tv for days. Such a shock. We know more about him now, but really he was young, handsome, a leader and got things done. He inspired most. We all wanted to join the peace corp. move mountains. It was a time of hope. Then everything fell..... I don't think we have ever been the same. Jmho

I also have no memory of the assassination, but I clearly remember seeing Ruby shooting Oswald. My mom was in the basement washing clothes, and I yelled that something bad had happened.

What a bad year all around. We were married a bit over one year. My husband was working for a glass company. A pane of glass slipped and cut most of the tendons on his left hand. He was out of work for months. Then I had a miscarriage, our first. JFK being shot wrapped up a bad year. I was recuperating watching the news. Things had to get better.

Hi @Shelbelle
I'm glad you memorialized this event, on this Anniversary day.I didnt dare initiate this.
America was changed. Americans were changed.
It was as if this day in United States, in fact, the World, stood still. Nobody thought such an horrific event could happen in the Free & Fine USA.
Everyone of an age, that Ive talked to, remember where & when they were when they heard the Shocking News of this day - Young & Old alike.
As if, Time Stood Still.
Those News Flash Clips, indelibly engraved, still sitting there in our mind, memory & soul today.
"Camelot" was no more.
Then, just as the Nation were trying to get our bearing, back on our feet, follow-on events, memories & song of "Abraham, Martin, John & Bobby"
And Youth, Hope & Innocence seem to be pierced, some say, never again to be restored, after this strife-filled, indelibly, memory-filled events, one after another.

I remember being in junior highschool that day and when we heard about it from the teacher kids were getting very upset and crying. Teachers were consoling children in the hallways.
