I actually only posted this as a diversion from an ugly thread, on the board

When you find something that's reportedly 5,000 years old depicting an event that took place a bit over two thousand years ago, either the dating is wrong, or the interpretation of what was found is wrong. In this case I would say that was a very, very liberal interpretation of the artwork.

While I can understand the desire of many people to dismiss this as mistakeninterpretation ormistaken dating, there is a problem with that.  You are making them conclusion and then looking for away to explain it because it interferes with your preconceived notiongs.  That is not how science works.  That is nothow history works.

The likely explanation here isthat this simply depicts a common mythological story in the region.  While I am not making any claims about Jesus and do not with to turn thisinto a religious discussion, many of the teachings in Christian scriptures aboutthe birth of Jesus are the same as those surrounding other mythologies which predate Jesus -- including Horus, Buddha, Osiris, and Mithra (to name a few).

While simply dismissing these other mythologies in favorof ones own may help you sleepbetter at night, it is intellectually dishonest.

When I view the photo, I  thought it was a fertility carving/marker.  So many civilizations and cultures had fertility objects, art, markers, etc.

There are petroglyphs and pictographs all over the world,  including millions in America.   We have Petroglyphs National Monument right here on the edge of Albuquerque. What does  Biblical Archeology have to say about the figures in them?

Jesus was born 2000+ years ago not 5000 years ago. There is a lack of logic there.
