Fireworks demonstrations will be canceled, but Fourth of July family gatherings and picnics? Hardly.
Those who choose to stay indoors (under "strict limitations") on a beautiful day are certainly free to do so. But people ARE going outdoors, in the fresh air, by the water, and enjoying themselves even now. And that's going to continue during the summer months, and certainly in resort areas.
And not just at Martha's Vineyard 😉.

Here's what I can see happening.
Families will gather for a backyard bar-b-que, and that people will come over who don't live in that particular home.

Our local city park puts together a large summer program for kids...it's been cancelled and we do work for that program...big loss of money for our business....there will be more to come, and we had already lost several jobs just as the shut down began.

Instead they're assembling kits containing craft activities, complete with s'mores, to hand out. Poor substitute, IMO. I suppose they'll cancel the big fireworks exhibit at Balloon Fiesta Park which draws huge crowds. Very sad.
@Kachina624 It is really sad...not much to look forward to this summer particularly for the kids. NYC has cancelled all summer programs including pools staying closed. I'm sure the same thing will be happening in Philly.
So far one local town has cancelled fireworks for the fourth and I'm sure many more will soon follow.
@haddon9 I'm so thankful I don't have young children that must be entertained. What in the world are parents going to do with them, especially as they return to work?
My niece, a wonderful teacher in NJ, has a 10 year old son. After they finish school each day at home, they don rubber boots and wade a nearby stream looking for all sorts of wild things. They both enjoy the exploring, and saw an eagle early this week.

I hate everything about fireworks. But then, I do have a fear of fire in general.
One Fourth my husband took our then young daugher to a sanctioned display. But some idiots on a hill were throughing illegal firworks down on the crowd, and one landed on our daughter. Thankfully, people immediately brushed it off her.
I'm sure that my husband debated about telling me. :-)

@SusanH They will either find a preventative or a treatment. There are many very smart, capable people working on it.
Who is telling people there will never be a vaccine? Where is that message coming from? It's like the new thing now. People all over the world are working on this.

@Sooner The flu that circulates annually is not nearly as virulent or as contagious as the coronavirus. That's why what we've got is a pandemic. As people throw caution to the wind, it's likely to get worse, even in places where it hasn't been prevalent. You may be in good health but how's your immune system?
As I said, each person will have to decide if the risk is worth the possible consequences. Perhaps discuss it with your doctor?

Family gatherings should be fine if they are people that live together and if they stay at least six feet away from anyone else in a park that is open..
The parks in our little beach city have remained open, but the beach is not. And that's because people had violated the rules, and it was a madhouse. Plus, we have a very popular pedestrian and bike path right next to the sand that is just too narrow for any decent protection.
