Re: 30th Anniversary of Challenger

Had started my training company and was working in my home office designing / outlining a supervisor training program for a bank in NJ.  The TV was on as background " noise " and then the noise went strange: the screen showed the smoke spiraling around the Challenger.  Couldn't focus the rest of the day.  How sad for everyone touched by this disaster.

When I was in high school ( early 60's ), I remember one nun with whom I became close  tell me about her brother-in-law who had died in a test program.  I think it was a NASA site.  She said it was hushed up.

May they be resting in eternal peace.

Re: 30th Anniversary of Challenger

We were all at home because of a snow-day and watching the launch. My mother had made pancakes and nobody was able to eat. I remember it being pretty somber at our house.

Re: 30th Anniversary of Challenger

I was working in food service at the time. I was in the kitchen getting ready for the lunch crowd when I heard the news.

Re: 30th Anniversary of Challenger

Today is my Birthday. Thirty years ago I was looking forward to celebrating a Milestone birthday !  That morning when I got to work ,a co worker told me what had happened.

Needless to say after hearing the horrible news we were not in the celebrating mood. I always will remember the look on Christa's Mom face as she was looking up into the sky as it turned from pride to disbelief.

I was feeding my two and half year old son a late breakfast while watching on television.

I was home sick from school and was watching on TV. I will always remember my Dad worked on the guidance system for Challenger as well as all of the Apollo systems. Very sad and horrific event.

I, too, was in the hospital watching it on tv.  I gave birth to my daughter the night before.

Re: 30th Anniversary of Challenger

Feb. 1st marks the Columbia loss and our county, Smith here in Texas got some debris but the sound the shuttle made going over us was unbelievable.  I thought a tree had fallen on the house because the windows shook and the noise was so loud.  The below photo was taken by the Dr. who lives in my hometown of Tyler Texas while they were going over us here.
