I just checked the Facebook pics and Chick 1 is completely out and standing.
He's been fed "something" by his parents.
Chick 2 has broken the shell wide open and is trying to figure out how to stand up.
IMO, Chick 2 looks a little inebriated, LOL.

@Mz iMac thank you! they are so cute and look happy and healthy. I hope they make it which usually they do up in big bear. Such a good location for them. They are such beauties. Why I favor the Eagle who knows but I do. (our Ron and Rose are in a private property in Miami and pretty safe too. Not bothered by predators which is good.
Just a quick note, our two R9 and R10 have made it and flown the coop. They still come back once in awhile but it's mostly over.
So here we wait until next season in Florida. Let Mom and Dad stay healthy and not crash into something here.
Congratulations Jackie and Shadow!![]()

Irving & Stella live right smack in the middle of a big city, Pittsburg, Pa. Their nest is actually in an urban area by a lake. Below their nest are Amtrak & Conrail train tracks & a major well travelled highway. Their nests are not high in the sky, deep in the boonies or mountains like Jackie & Shadow's.
They are the apex serial killers. In otherwords, THEY are the preditors.
I live in So Jersey near an urban city w/several eagles in residence. One eagle nest is right next to a State Prison.
City noises apparently do not affect urban eagles

Chick #2 is partly bald! ![]()
Still "attached/stuck" to egg. (mama or papa did not do a good job of egg rolling #2)

Oh no, @Mz iMac so what is the future for this little critter?

@Pink123 Unknown what is going on. No comments are allowed on their FB site at this time. All you see on the FB site are videos of the newly hatch. No explaination why #2 is mostly featherless.
Will check back later on tonight.

Thank you @Mz iMac please do so and much appreciated for this baby. I have never seen this sort of situation. I've been watching 5 years on a few You Tube blogs, and read a few books about the eagle in particular.. ![]()

Mid-morning Friday, Shadow was on the Cactus Snag defending himself against a red-tailed hawk, who attempted to displace him a few times. Shadow avoided the hawk, then chased it off before flying up to the nest to see Jackie.
Just as Shadow was settling down on the eggs, the first external pip was observed on one of the eggs! A minute later, little baby chirps were clearly heard! What a joyful sound! We missed those precious little first chirps last season with Sunny and Gizmo, as the mic was not working due to a storm.
Shadow grabbed a pile of new fluff in his beak that looked like a bundle of hay as he pulled it in front of him. Just then, Jackie returned with another giant bundle. She stood proudly behind Shadow to observe the neighborhood as he worked. As they posed in the nest, it was a perfect opportunity for photos.
Shadow showed Jackie he was diligently placing all the fluff where it needed to go in hopes he might get to lay on the eggs. Unfortunately after just three short minutes, Mama Jackie lovingly nudged him up.
Shadow returned about 3 hours later with a stick and then a fish, but even those didn't work. She claimed the fish, but didn't get off the eggs to eat, so he left again. One more try… he flew in with a larger fish and that did the trick!
Jackie was hungry enough now and this was some impressive fish!
As the camera zoomed in on the eggs, Jackie ate but also chatted softly with Shadow. More little chirps came from the hatching egg underneath Shadow to join their conversation. So sweet!
Another sweet moment came when Jackie offered Shadow a piece of fish from her beak. He took it but then she gently took that little piece back and ate it herself! Jackie only ate part of that second huge silver-colored fish before flying off to take her break.
During another egg roll, Shadow revealed the hole in the eggshell had grown and more progress had been made. Jackie ate more fish before her night shift began and Shadow flew off to show his dominance by perching atop a nearby pine tree to silence a vocal raven before flying off to roost.
It was truly a beautiful day at the nest!

The first egg is still in the process of hatching, it is not considered hatched until it is completely free of the egg shell. The chick has popped its head out of the shell to say a happy hatch day to mom and dad!
It also appears that the second egg has a pip. It is not well defined as of this morning, but we will likely see more progress throughout the day.
Congratulations Jackie & Shadow, their work has just begun.
Thank you again for following this grand journey of Jackie and Shadow.

Tonight, April 4th at 21:33:31 cam time, chick 1 officially broke completely free from its egg! The process took about 36 hours of hard work and a lot of rest for the chick.
Until officially named, the eaglet will be referred to as Chick 1. Egg 2 which pipped this morning is making good progress and should soon join its sibling.
We have seen hundreds of requests and suggestions to name one of the chicks Sandy in honor of Sandy Steers, her years of tireless environmental work in the valley and her love for the eagles.
Sandy would not want this. Our process has always been to have a fundraiser naming contest (details coming soon), and the local 3rd graders vote on the final names.
This brought great joy to Sandy through the years, and we will honor her by continuing this tradition.
Congratulations Jackie and Shadow on your first hatch of the season…
Thank you all for sharing your kind words and excitement with us!
