In my neck of the woods, the GS sitting in front of the supermarkets take payments in the forms of......

Paypal

CC

Apple Pay

Cashier Checks

Neighbors, friends & family take payment in the forms of.....

CASH only  Smiley LOL

Door to door selling is prohibited because of the dangers & the no soliticing policies.

interesting.......cannot say i have seen them offer other forms of payment except for cash or checks.

Re: 🍪 2020 Girl Scout Cookies 🍪

I no longer buy GS cookies .....  the prices have gone up,  and number of cookies has diminished to a point where I feel ripped off.  Plus --- you can buy a copy of every GS cookie these days in the grocery store.

So, instead of buying cookies, I tell them no thank you, but I would like to make a donation to the GS .... they always accept my money ...  and I don't feel ripped off.

I may be the lone wolf here but I've never found anything special about the cookies.

Re: 🍪 2020 Girl Scout Cookies 🍪

I love thin mints. DH brought home 2 boxes the other day. (He's diabetic and doesn't eat cookies these days. So I'd have to eat all of them.)

I put them in the freezer - hoping "out of sight, out of mind." The problem is, they taste great frozen, too.Woman Frustrated

Re: 🍪 2020 Girl Scout Cookies 🍪

we have some local restaurants in the area that purchase girl scout cookies from the troops. for one month they create special desserts that incorporate the cookies.

Savanna Smiles-lemon mascarpone layered cake with crushed blackberry whipped cream and candied lemon slices.

The lowest level back when I started was a Brownie.  You had actual cookies in a cardboard box carried from door to door for a cost of .50 cents.  I wish I could remember how many cookies were in a box back in 1968 my first year.  I love girl scout cookies but so expensive.

@beckyb1012  You can buy most of the flavors at Aldi for $1.45 per box. I stopped buying Girl Scout cookies when I found out they only get to keep .60 from each box sold.

That Savanna Smiles-lemon mascarpone layered cake looks a whole lot better than the actual cookie. I disliked the cookie alot.

Luckily I dislike most of the Girl Scout Cookies. So no tempation for me (one I MIGHT eat is the lemon sandwich cookie one if they ever bring that back to my area (I know some areas had or still have them). Also, maybe the coconut/chocolate one. But not enough to buy a box. Only if someone offered me a cookie).

Re: 🍪 2020 Girl Scout Cookies 🍪

I give money to them instead of buying the cookies that stays with the troop, since thin mints went vegan they are not the same, and I don't need subpar thin mints

i honestly dont think the troops themselves are making only twenty cents a box, especially on the intial sales order.

but yes, it is up to regional council how the split goes......and they do get support from their local councils (which isnt measured into the monies the troop recieves directly.)

via the article i posted.......

How exactly the profits get divided is again up to the regional council, but for a case study, let’s turn to the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, who break down their financials like this:

  • 50 percent goes to council-sponsored programs, events, properties, training, and scholarships.
  • 24 percent goes to the cost of the cookies.
  • 23 percent goes to troop proceeds, girl recognitions, and service unit bonuses.
  • 3 percent goes to the cost of Cookie Program support.

then these figures are from 2016.....

The going rate is $4 a box, but only $.64 stays with the girls at first. "It depends on how many cookies you initially sell," said Ruda. "The more you sell in the first order, the more you make off each box." $1.20 goes toward the cost of the cookie.

check again, not my quote 😊

that is why I give them the $4 for the price of the cookies,

when my kid sold them I found that out,  so a donation is way better than buying them
