Nooooo!!!!! You didn't throw out gold jewelry did you?? {#emotions_dlg.ohmy} Well, if it tarnished that bad and wouldn't clean up, then it was probably plated. Get yourself a loupe and check your jewelry for karat markings before throwing it out. Gold is valuable and can always be sold.

I would try to dig it out of wherever you threw it, and have a jeweler check it.

Gold is composed of several metals. 24 karat gold (pure) will not tarnish, but will easily bend. That is why gold is combined with other metals, which will in time turn, but with the proper polishing can return to its original luster. Sometimes silver is plated with thin gold(vermeil) and this may not come up gold upon polishing. If that item is loved, it can be replated.
