So glad to read that some people here 'get it'.

The news report here says the AR 15, which is not an assault rifle or weapon of war, belonged to Angel Gomez or one of the other passengers in his car. They did recover the gun and three additional ones when they found the 12 year-old. Guns are easy to access now at any age. Some have made them on 3D printers. Banning them or the current "gun control" push will not reduce crime, because the criminals will still have them. The border is wide open, and guns and drugs are flowing in like water.

@Trailrun23 Which is why gun ownership isn't going away soon.

"Be the change you want to see in the world"

Too many are feeding into the dark culture. If you're not going to make changes in your own home/life, then stop complaining. You can't have it both ways.

@Greeneyedlady21   No matter what it is called, it was used to

                               assault and kill.

@CAcableGirl2   I totally agree. But a lot of video games

                            promote violence.

It's almost like these young people are

acting out the violence that they play

                            on the video games.

They have been desensitized to violence.

There is no feeling or empathy for others.

                               It's a scary world today. I'm glad that I

raised my kids in a kinder world, back

                              in the 70's and 80's.

They could play outside and go anywhere,

                               without fear.

I believe that has been debunked by professionals.  Japan apparently has and has had for years the highest level of video game players and the country has a very low rate of violence.

No, it isn't but it can be configured/adapted to be/used like one.

Re: 12 year-old kills a Sonic employee

[ Edited ]

@amyb  Just before Covid, I retired after 32 years working in

the public schools in our city.

I made some predictions to a couple of co -workers and family. When cable TV came along, in the 80's, many children were expose to the the violent movies, that would have not been shown on TV before that. My two sons were young and I would not have wanted them to watch the violence.

I did not get cable until 1992, when my second husband moved in and he wanted his sports channels. My boys

had grown up by then.

Also during the 80's and 90's kids played video games.

It started with PacMac and Super Mario Brothers, but eventually violence made an appearance in the video games and they became too realistic.

During these same years, we heard about so much drug

abuse and the related criminal activities associated with that.

Back then, I said these young kids are getting exposed to violence and they will be desensitized by it. Watch for it in the

future.

With the drug usage, I said that we will see the effect on the children born with learning disabilities, behavoral and psychological problems.  I handled and processed student records and files.

Sadly, I did see those things happen. By the 2000's and until I retired,  I did see all those problems grow exponentially,

with those numbers growing each year.

Now, we have a country full of those problems. Combine that with easy access to military type weapons.

I'm sure that cell phones and the hate on the internet have

contributed also to hate and violence that we hear about daily.

@Bridgegal  I was referring to violent video games. Not all games are violent. Were the games referrenced in Japan all violent games, or video games in general?

@Bridgegal

As can other semi-automatic rifles. This is not exclusive to an AR 15. In the reports I have read after shootings, only 1 that I remember, had used a conversion to make it an automatic fire.

NRA started this fear mongoring long ago..........

"I'll give you my gun when you pry (or take) it from my colddead hands
