I'm not sure that children in these situations ever recover. It must take intense therapy to get beyond it and move forward. They can never replace the time that was taken from them, the torture they endured is so sick.

I'm sure their life before this wasn't so great either.   These kids live in a cult-like existence

The perpetrator and both parents need to spend the rest of their lives in jail.

Re: 12 children found in home

What a sick story.  For years I've been reading and hearing about the Amish running miserable, cruel puppy mills around the country. Making money on the misery of helpless animals.  This is a new low. I know they don't ALL participate in puppy mills so no finger waving please.

  1. @JaneMarple If people stop talking about these horrific happenings it can be too easily ignored......just like the neighbors who suspect something but do nothing.I think if nobody talks that makes it easier for the crimes to continue.

My point has gotten terribly misunderstood, it's not the thread or post that bothered me so much. It's one of the first rplies that I didn't appreciate.

A little background on this story, it is local to me:

1) the parents of the children (who are in jail right now) broke away from the Amish community where they lived before the "gifting".  Their farm was foreclosed upon by the community, and the parents blamed them for their financial troubles.  They left that area-so the neighbors in the original area had no idea any child/ren were missing.

They now rent a farm somewhere else, and call themselves "born again".

2) the neighbors did report things over the years, unfortunately they did not report abuse, since they did not know anything--just that is was an odd situation.  Finally, this last reporting went noticed because the agency classified it to be noticed.

It is horrible, but the neighbors had confronted the man-- they even knocked on the door-- but he lied and/or ignored the door on all previous occasions.

Thank you for posting! I live in the same neighborhood that this happened. And I am so glad you clarified the facts.

Re: 12 children found in home

I have to say that i am pretty alert and if i see something odd i am going to say something.  But where i live people pretty much keep to themselves.  And home schooling is a big thing.  So i am not sure that even now i can say with certainty that something like this is not going on here. These adults are aberrations and should stay locked up.

Negative news honey.  Obviously you people get excited about reporting bad news.

First off I'd appreciate it if you refrain from calling me honey, secondly a discussion of an event is not reporting.  As you can see, plenty of people here were interested in this story so I don't know what else to tell you.

Weird.

These held-captive stories always seem

Especially the cases of 2+ people.

Duly noted, but I was referring to the groups

of kidnapped/captived people. Seems like the stories

of groups of 2 people or more kidnapped/held captived

are usually around the Indiana-Ohio-Penn area.

Not all the time, but more than enough to

have it on the radar when these stories come out.
