The cigarette tax is going to be raised in Cook County, which includes Chicago, about $1.00 per pack.
This will bring the price of cigarettes to about $11.00 per pack.
It is said to be aimed at discouraging young people not to smoke and to fund health care.
Since my husband was a smoker, I know he was paying about $6.00 per pack in another Illinois county.
I suppose many people could buy their cigarettes outside of the county.
What do you think - unfair to smokers or tax the heck out of cigarettes??
