In town our sales tax is almost 10% but out in the county but no ""real stores"" out here it is only 5.5% . . . and we have state income tax to boot.

Scottie, not only that but our politicians want to raise State, Income, Sales and all other taxes for one dumb reason or another on a daily basis.

Now, extra 'taxes' are called FEES so that it doesn't get folks riled. An extra FEE is added to other things and taxes are just one of them.

There is no sales tax on clothing in Pa so when we are here in the summer I try to buy all the clothing I expect to need. It is like getting a7% discount. Florida has low property taxes and no income tax but the sales tax is high - the tax on "prepared foods" includes things like jarred spaghetti sauce, bread and cereal.If it is ready to be consumed it is taxed as a prepared food.

There's a nice discount mall close to the Oregon border. I always make sure we hit that spot when the stores are open.
