I used to wonder if wages were higher in states where it costs more to live but I don't htink so....my husband was approached a few times by headhunters from CA and the salary offered was no higher than his TX salary yet the cost of housing and other expenses is extremely high....there is no way we could afford the same house in CA.

Do you think your salary is higher than other states to make up for this?$88.57 One of the lowest in the country.
We are in California tansy. I'm not sure how overall salaries in CA compare to other states. You just want to get your sweet little hands on that adorable grandbaby! You're not fooling him. LOL Could use this map as another reason to move! Good Luck, grandma'!
I know I am not fooling him but I am starting to annoy him -- lol. He, DIL and the baby are arriving soon to celebrate his first birthday!! I will be campaigning relentlessly![]()

Scottie, not only that but our politicians want to raise State, Income, Sales and all other taxes for one dumb reason or another on a daily basis.
Incredible! I don't know how people can afford to live there. Add state tax onto federal tax, gas tax, communications tax, sales tax, taxes on utilities, FICA, etc. etc. etc.

It's not easy to just get up and move......especially if you have a good job/home/established friendships/kids in school, etc.

It's not an easy thing to do even when you don't have kids and family and a job. We did it 4 years ago - retired to Florida after both of us had lived almost our entire lives in Pittsburgh.

i used to work with a nurse who moved to Pittsburgh to be by his girlfriend who was in grad school here. He said his salary was half what it was in LA and yet he had a much better lifestyle here than there where he was working 2 jobs and barely getting by - and he was an RN with a BSN and his certificate in critical care so he was in the highest pay level.

$88.57 and the dubious distinction of the highest income tax in the nation. Then there's the sales tax in each county- mine is 9%.

If I could we'd move down to the Oregon border where there is no sales tax but live in WA.
