Re: 10 things you should NOT buy/get in 2014

My smartphone serves as my camera, GPS, and tablet. The photo quality is as good as a digital camera. Phone cameras have come a very long way from the originals. I don't need or want a phone landline and have done very well without it for several years now.

I like my laptop for home use.

Netflix movie streaming interests me. I do see myself going that route at some point. I don't see giving up cable completely. Must have my HBO!

I wouldn't rent a house for a short stay. I like having all my needs met in a nice hotel.

We got rid of our landline a while ago--never used it. The only calls that came in on it were marketing calls. I don't miss it one bit.

We never use our digital camera, so that's a no brainer for me. The phone is always with me, and the picture quality is fine. I'm not taking art photos, so it's good enough for me.

We have discussed dropping cable for Netflix or Hulu, but my DH is concerned about all his sports programming. We shall see how that one plays out.

We all (my DH and 2 kids) still have laptops as well as tablets and smartphones. Yes, it's totally redundant, but there you have it. We use them for different things. My DH never uses his Kindle anymore because he reads all his books on his tablet (we both have an older version of Kindle, not Kindle Fire). The times are a-changin'!

I got rid of my landline for a few years and hated it and within the last year I got it back. I will never be without my landline again. I don't care if I'm the last man standing, LOL, I will always have that phone.

As far as the others, I am computer free right now, but plan to buy a small laptop eventually. I do want an iPad as well, but I don't want it to be my main computer.

I'm going to hang onto cable for awhile, maybe if they feel threatened by the other emerging technologies, they'll lower their prices.

Re: 10 things you should NOT buy/get in 2014

I'm just an old-fashioned so and so ...

I'm not giving up my Sony desktop computer (it's an all-in-one, so that's enough upgrade for me). Gave my laptop to my son, but will buy another.

Not giving up my land line. We've had the same number for more years than I can remember.

Have a Kindle, but never use it ... just haven't gotten around to getting a WiFi router (sigh), so it's just sits. Will take it on vacation to use in the hotels, though.

Only use the digital camera when traveling, but will not part with it for anything more sophisticated.

Love staying at Marriott hotels, particularly the Renaissance; plus we get reward points, so not giving this up.

Use a Tracfone, so no contract.

Have a portable DVD player I take on vacations ... 10 inch, but has great clarity ... movies look great on it.

However, I do crave an iPad! That's on my list for this year.

Oh, forgot ... GPS came already installed in our new car.

I read that on another website. It makes sense. But I not going to lose my land phone, because if there is an emergency your cell phones won't work and you will have a better chance with a land phone

I could not imagine ever giving up our landline. We've had the same number for 25+ years. I cannot begin to count how people and places I'd need to notify if we were to give up this number. In addition, I hate using a cell phone. I can count on one hand, how many times I use mine in an average week.

just an FYI. You don't have to give up your landline number if you go to cell only. I had my number for over 25 years and they just made that my cell number. I didn't have to notify a soul.

azterry!, thanks for your response. I really use that as an excuse. Our landline feels like a security blanket. In addition I really HATE talking on cell phones.

you are welcome.

I get you. There was a period of adjustment for me. Now, I don't even know what it's like to talk on a landline phone. In fact, this weekend I was at a friend's house and had to use their landline phone. I had to ask, "how do you work this thing?" {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}
