I remember 50 years ago a friend had her heart set on an apartment in Long Branch NJ -- a recently built oceanfront highrise. She said it was the safest building around. 

After moving in, she learned what was not written in her lease. She had to buy liquor at a specific store, buy gas from a specific station, take her dry cleaning to a specific store, etc.

But crime inside the building? Nothing. Local crooks knew better than to try anything in a Mafia controlled apartment building.

Meanwhile fentynal and illegal drugs run rampant. I too live where there is a “mob” presence. I live in a very safe neighborhood. So they arrest like 20 guys that don’t affect the quality of our lives but can’t bring down drug cartels.
