I was one of those all my life do not give up on a book ever, finish it. Then I tried three different times over about a five year period to finish Unbroken. I know it is a fabulous true story but for me the book held no interest whatsoever. I still have it so maybe one day. Slowly as a few more years went by I decided life was too short to waste my time on books I do not agree with in a socially/society way.
Since I read about 6 books a week and all from the library there are too many great ones to waste my time on a clunker.

I do quit more easily now. Or perhaps I just choose less wisely? I use Libby so my selection is vast.
Hesitate to ****** a book since my taste is not yours. Had to chuckle at a post just below, I loved Unbroken. Proves my point.

I usually give a book 60 or so pages before I put it down. Sometimes after a while has passed, I will pick it back up and try it again.
I just recently did that and ended up finishing and really liking the book-can't remember the name right now....
If after the 2nd pick up it doesn't grab me, I'm done!
I love to read too much to waste time on a book that doesn't interest me!

For me it was Moby Di ck. I did not like it at all.
In more recent years I usually finish a book but if it doesn't catch my interest after the first few chapters or so I will put it down not to be picked up again...life is short. Why bother reading something that I just don't find an interest in?

Yes, indeed I have many DNF (did not finish) books.
The one that immediately springs to mind is Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James. The writing was atrocious in my opinion and transported me back to early grade school ****** and Jane books. Fun with ****** and Jane; See Spot Run; Guess Who?; Go Away; Away We Go; and Go, Go, Go.
The best part of the experience was attending a seminar at our local university where a panel disucssed why it was so popular. Glad I did attend because I was baffled, but left enlightened.

Could not make it into The Goldfinch.
Tried reading Mad Honey and got tired of "listening" to the guy's mom yack on. So I found out what happened. If the book had been more about the point I would certainly have finished it.

"Mad Honey" got too preachy for me. I finished it, but this wasn't one of Picoult's best books. The concept was good, but the writing style, not so much. Picoult could have made her point without the lecturing.

'Fairy Tale', by Stephen King who I always thought hung the moon. That book was stupid. I donated to library.
