@sunala wrote:I'm struggling through The Fifth Witness by Michael Connelly. It's the 4th book of a series of the Lincoln Lawyer books. I really enjoyed the first three, but this one is just dragging along.
Of course it could be my frame of mind this past week, but I've been working on it for that long and I'm not halfway through yet.
What do you all think? Should I pull the bookmark or continue? I could actually go either way.
Thanks!
I remember thinking it wasn't up to the author's usual standards but I finished it. Sometimes when I'm not sure about a book, I go into a fast-skim mode😊.

@smoky22, I will be interested to hear your take on A Great Reckoning. Come back and tell us what you think. LM

@smoky22 wrote:@dawg lover thanks for the recommendation on the Sofie Kelly books (Magical Cats series). They look interesting.
@smoky22 - I really like this cozy series. The cats have so much personality, and of course, they help solve the mysteries or get the heroine out of trouble. As I recall, the series improves as it goes along. I would read them in order, as there is a romance that progresses!

I just finished CROSSTALK by Connie Willis. I don't know how to describe this book exactly. I was about the near future - trying to connect via telepathy instead of using a phone, etc. The ending got a little strange.
I am starting The Whistler by John Grisham. His books are usually a fast read.

The Girls by Emma Cline. It's a take on the Manson murders. The main character is a 14 yo teenager named Evie who is deperate for any kind of attention. It chronicles her life in & out of the camp. It keeps going back and forth from a middle aged Evie to her teenage self.
I didn't like any of the characters. Not even the teenagers! Not one decent human being in that book. Evie, even as a middle aged woman is still deperate for attention to the point where when she gets it from two teenagers, was so happy for it, she smoked weed & got drunk with them. Apparently she didn't learn her lesson. It wasn't a bad book though. I gave it 4 stars on Gooddreads.

Regarding The Fifth Witness, the Michael Connelly book I've been poking through since 11/4, I finally finished it today, although I have to admit I did skip chunks here and there. I couldn't stand reading it anymore! It's the 4th book of the "Lincoln Lawyer" series. The others were really good, but this one was the stinker. I kept thinking it was me, as it was a tough week (you know why, but I don't want to post it and then get my post removed). Anyway, this morning I told myself it's do or die, so I skimmed through the second half of the book and read the ending. Still a stinker! I gave it one star and it's lucky I gave it even that.
Then a little while later I started The Heart of Harry Quantum by Pepper Harding. I'd heard comparisons to Ove, so I couldn't wait to read it. No way!! Not even close. The man is 40 years-old and he has a mind-wandering problem. Annoying characters. There was no way I was going to suffer through another bad book, so I PTB early after only a chapter (if that much). It didn't get great reviews either. On to better books!
I may start Mischling, or maybe Finding Jake. I've got a very large selection to choose from, so I'd better choose wisely!

Fates and Traitors a novel of John Wilkes Booth by Jennifer Chiaverini
I had no ideal his family was so famous back in the day. This has been a wonderful read and I have enjoyed all her others before too.
Bridget Jone's Baby by Helen Fielding

Sunala, I knew you would ptb. I don't blame you one bit. Too many other books to read!
Just finished The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel, a LT ARC. I've read a lot of books over the years, but nothing like this. Very dark and disturbing to say the least but enjoyable if that makes sense.
Going to read something lighter by MaryJanice Davidson, Undead and Unreturnable.

@SWEET, Just had a look at THE ROANOKE GIRLS. It's on my list. Thanks for posting.
I am in the middle of The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag. This is my second attempt to read something of hers. The first was a long time ago and I can't remember what the book was but I PTB. Because of that, I haven't looked at her since. I am really enjoying this one which is a cold case story from years ago and a current homicide. I will definitely read her an again. Just goes to show I judged too soon. LM
