After the Storm by Linda Castillo. It's book seven in a mystery series that takes place in Amish country. The author writes other types of books but this is the only series I care for.

I finished The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeny. I thought it was just ok. I expected it to be better than what it was.
Starting The Progeny byTosca Lee. I'm excited for this one.
Happy Fourth all!

I was disappointed by The Nest also. I read such glowing reviews about it I think my expectations were too high.

@MrsSweeetieBear & @Sunnyfield, hands down, John Hart is one of all-time favorites; IRON HOUSE my favorite of his. I also highly recommend GREG ISLES & his PENN CAGE series.

@MrsSweetieBear wrote:Just finished Redemption Road by John Hart - Poetic grittiness is how I described his writing. I did take exception to a few points but it's tense, fast and exciting if you like that sort of book.
I gave it 4 Stars. I've read 4 of his now and will look forward to what he comes up with next.
I recently finished REDEMPTION ROAD. While I enjoyed it, the book wasn't that author's best.

The Lake House, by Kate Morton.
"In the latest from Morton, secrets from the past come to light in the present, a theme that is the author’s specialty…. Missing babies, maternal sacrifice, and secrets, secrets, secrets—Morton offers generous clues, only to peel back deeper layers just when the truth seems close…..not short on heart-wrenching choices and rich characters." -- Booklist (The Lake House) (Booklist)

I'm reading A Country Road, a Tree by Jo Baker. The title intrigued me. It's 1939, Paris. I am waiting patiently for him to join the Resistance. If anyone has read this, is it worth the trip?

These are both good books with close knit families and the problems and joys of life. Mary Simses and Elizabeth Poliner. 07-05-2016 01:32 PM
