Re: What are you Reading? July, 2016

I finished Self-Inflicted Wounds, the hilarious memoir by Aisha Tyler. I listened to her read it via Audible and she had me laughing a lot when I really needed some laughter in the world.

Now I'm reading Thy Kingdom Come: How the Religious Right Distorts Faith and Threatens America, by Randall Balmer. Balmer is an Evangelical Christian and this is not a book bashing Christianity or religion. This book is about how the far religious is using for political gain and the mythology they've created to do so. It's very good so far.

Hi All,

Finished a couple of books so far this month. Also PTB on one.

The Passenger by Lisa Lutz- Excellent. Great twists, and a fast paced book.

Everyone Brave Is Forgiven by Chris Cleave- I very rarely pull the bookmark once I start reading, but I did on this one. Just couldn't get into it. Will try again at a different time.

Stay cool everyone!

I am reading "Everyone Brave is Forgiven" and love it! I would encourage you to keep at it--it does not disappoint.  The author has a gift with words and conversation--and his characters are witty, but also flawed.

Absolutely LOVED "The Passenger."

Just starting the new Elly Griffiths "The Woman in Blue."  Hope it lives up to the rest of the series.

Did You Ever Have A Family?   I'm considering reading it for a second time.  It's as though I missed something and another go at it will help me understand everything.  This book would be great for a discussion group.

@AuntG I'm wondering why you feel as though you missed something? I read it once, and although I did not love it, others did. I just accept that as a difference of opinion. I was actually going to try to read The Nest again, since I pulled the bookmark on it after a few chapters. Some people actually raved about it, but others hated it. I agree that it would make a wonderful discussion at a book club. Or, you can start a discussion here. Several here have read it.

Please let us know if you read it again and change your perception.

@sunala

I also read The Nest.  I did finish it but I wasn't impressed.  I think I just kept reading thinking it would get better!  I have read so many books since I can't even remember it now.

Re: What are you Reading? July, 2016

I cancelled my pre-order of Liane Moriarty's "Truly Madly Guilty" as the reviews were not good at all.  Will be interested to what my pals who get books from the library have to say about it!

@smoky22, I got "Dust and Shadow" today.  Thank you.  Looks so good!
