Re: What are you Reading? DECEMBER 2016

[ Edited ]

I listened to two heartwarming, uplifting Christmas stories today!

The 'Christmas' chapter in Little House in the Big Woods
and
The 'Mr. Edwards Meets Santa Claus' chapter in Little House on the Prairie

Re: What are you Reading? DECEMBER 2016

I just finished small great things by Jodi Picoult.  I liked this book very much except for the ending.  I felt the ending was expected  and minimized the book but I would still recommend it.

I am starting on Still Life by Louise Penny.

Re: What are you Reading? DECEMBER 2016

I just finished Written Off, by E. J. Copperman, earlier this week. I'm listening to the audio book and the reader, Amanda Ronconi, is doing a fantastic job with the material. There's a lot of humor in this mystery and she has great timing and delivery of the funniest parts. E. J. Copperman is a pen name of writer Jeff Cohen, so he has quite a few books written between the two names.

Written Off is the first (and only, right now) book in a new series and I look forward to the next book. The premise is that a mystery author with a series of detective books has a character named Duffy Madison. One day she receives a phone call from a man claiming to be Duffy Madison who says he needs her help. She thinks it's coincidence, but soon finds out that the Duffy Madison who called her really believes he is her character come to life. He also tells her that he's consulting on a serial murder case that involves the murders of several women, all mystery authors. There's a lot of humor and I really enjoyed the characters and the story.

Night School was fun, and I enjoyed it very much.  Just wanted a little more of Jack Reacher's fighting skills.  He got into one altercation, but I wanted more!!!Woman LOL

Now back to The Chemist.

Just finished The Next by Stephanie Gangi.  Joanna is dying and will soon be dead.  She has lots of unfinished business.

Next up is The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.

Re: What are you Reading? DECEMBER 2016

Just started The Obsidian Chamber (Pendergast) by Douglas Preston.  Has anyone read this?  I have the feeling I heard the title before.  I checked and read somewhere that release date was Oct 2016.

I am having a hard time settling in to read.  I have a broken foot and my cast comes off Tuesday after seven weeks on crutches. No wonder I'm stir crazy!  Of course, they are calling for our first snow storm Monday night into Tuesday.  I have warned the neighbors I may be looking for additions to my dogteam to get me to the hospitalWoman Very Happy.  LM

@CANDLEQUEEN, your storm is probably my storm haha.  Just a little further up the coast.

If you have never read Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, you are in for a treat.  They write together and alone.  I think we like the same kind of books so do have a look.  The Obsidian Chamber gets 4+ stars out of five.  There is a list of their books on Goodreads.  They have a series involving a guy called Pendergast.  Read in order if possible.

Yes, if I have to walk, I am keeping my appointment for cast removal.  LM

@LilysmomI'm so sorry about your foot. I broke my foot last year and it was no picnic. I didn't, however, get a cast, just a boot, but it was still so uncomfortable.

I hope the weather remains good until you get the cast off!

@sunala, the boot is so much easier than the cast.  I am eight months into this issue, mostly my fault.  I wore the boot for 8 weeks.  This is my second break in this foot, one right after another.  Not the same bone (metatarsal 3 and 4).  My foot still bothered me so I swam daily instead of walking.  When it got too cold to swim, I went back to walking and knew immediately I had a problem.

I went to the fracture clinic and they put me on crutches for seven weeks, five of them in a cast.  Cast comes off Tuesday thank heavens.  That will be my great gift of 2016.

Thanks for checking in with me!  LM
