@smoky22 and @Judaline - I always picture Elvis Cole looking exactly like the picture of the author, Robert Crais. He looks a bit "smirky" and smart-alecky. I enjoyed the Joe Pike books very much. He is such a "cool" character, and it is interesting to read his backstory.
I thought the exact same thing-but enter John Cassavetes. It's a cross between the two of them. You can see the glint of fun in Crais' eyes in some pics, while others are more tough guy. I'll take either one. And yes, I don't think there's a cooler character than Joe. Why is it that men who say little come across as cool. Clint Eastwood is cool. Steve McQueen was cool.

I read mostly non-fiction ... but I'm taking a break and reading C. S. Lewis' "The Great Divorce."

I read All Is Not Forgotten by Wendy Walker. A friend gave me this book and it has been sitting around because I did not think I would like it. Boy was I wrong - a real page turner!

@DiAnne Seems to me this was a tv movie.

It might have been. The book she gave me says "Early Readers Edition" on it. It also says "movie rights sold to Warner Brothers with Reese Witherspoon directing". The date for the copyright is 2016.

On another thread, someone talked about how some writers self e-publish, and when I read that I thought about the number of Young Adult fantasy books and celebrity books that have been published in recent years. I've read many classics and will enjoy rereading them in the future, but I thought there may be authors and ideas I could be missing. On Kindle, one of the authors I have is Emmy C. Haines. Titles are: UNDER THE BREAKUP BRIDGE (1930's Reno divorce fiction), CEMENTING OVER MR. MITCHELL (women's fiction), RADIO SHRINK (women's fiction), and INSIDE HER WARDROBE (women's historical fiction). I don't know which one(s) I'll read of these, but it seems like I'm on a women's fiction kick. There's also a multitude of other authors and genres to choose from.

@DiAnne No, I guess not. This would have been a while back-maybe 5 years.

I can't remember if I have posted this one: The Survivors by Robert Palmer.
i read it about a month ago and it has stayed with me, a sign of a really good book. Highly recommend.

This morning I finished In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume.
It is based on true events, but is fiction. It was based on 3 plane crashes that happened in the early 1950's in Elizabeth, NJ. It was really good. I was sad to to finish it! She is really a great writer.
