@smoky22 Just curious-is Justin Cronin related to A.J. Cronin? It's an unusual name so I was just wondering. My parents bookshelves had a lot of his books.
You were right about The Forgotten Man. It was a really good Elvis Cole. I love the wisecracking and there was a lot of it in here. I noticed with each consecutive book, it dies down. Not a good thing, Robert. I am finally going to read the first one-the one that won all the awards. It's not available in my library so I guess I'll have to buy a copy-nice to have at least one on my book shelf. Did you ever listen to a recorded version? Does Elvis "talk"? I would love to hear his voice, but I might be disappointed-better not.
Sorry this is so long.

@Judaline you crack me up! I can't believe your library doesn't have The Monkey's Raincoat. Sometimes your library can get it from another library if you request it. Mine will do that.
I don't do audio books, but you brought up an interesting point - what does Elvis sound like? I'm with you. I'd probably be disappointed, because what I hear in my head is probably not what they make him sound like. I picture him a little bit like James Garner when he was younger. (Yes, I loved Maverick and The Rockford Files.)

I just finished The Sixth Idea by PJ Tracy. It is the new (seventh) book in the Monkeewrench series and it is wonderful. It involves a plot to now kill all those who know about a very top secret theory/project that took place back in the days of developing the hydrogen bomb. The old theory is now being used to for cyber attacks and that leads Monkeewrench to get involved. The book is set in the Minneapolis area. The pace is fast, the characters are smart & likeable, and there is lots of action. It fits my criteria for a very good book.
I know I have recommended this series before and I will again encourage people to read it. PJ Tracy is a mother-daughter writing team based in Minnesota.

I am reading Candidate for Murder by Lauren Carr. This is her Mac Faraday mystery series. They are fun little reads, nothing complex. I just like the lightheartedness of them and the antics of Gnarly (he's the dog). I have read the previous ones and like them well enough to read again.

@sandy53 No offense, but I just don't like writing 'teams'. If I pick up a book and it's by dual authors, I put it back down. Don't mind me. It's just one of my quirks.

@smoky22 I did find The Monkey's Raincoat. It suddenly appeared available at the library. I'm on it. Meanwhile I'm reading The Stalking Angel which is the second Elvis Cole. Boy is it different. Elvis is soooo tough talking-kind of a Mickey Spillane type in this one. No sign of Joe Pike yet. I'm really liking this one. So now I will have numbers 1 & 2 under my belt. He simmered down a bit in the later books I think. (Maybe Robert Crais did, too?) Woe betide me when I've run the gamut. Whatever will I do when I crave an Elvis Cole book. Hopefully more Maggies will be out by then. I'll read slow.
I found a site (don't ask, I can't remember) and the first book was on a recording. I clicked for a sample. I did not like the narrator and he read it (very well, actually) but his was all the voices.
Edit: Because it bugs me, I looked up the pronunciation of his name. It's Crase. Cray-ss
