After PTB on a couple of books in june/July, I read K is for Killer by Sue Grafton. I wanted a tried and true and of course, I wasn't disappointed.
I just started Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith and it already grabbed me. I know there were some who were disappointed on the interaction between Robin and Strike. Of course, I'm only 2 chapters in.

The Spellman's Strike Again, book four by Lisa Lutz.
Similar to the way Janet Evanovich writes the Stephanie Plum series but about a family of five with crazy parents, two crazy daughters and one comparatively normal son and the family private investigator business.
Quick fast and quite enjoyable read.

@sunala, thanks so much for starting this month's thread!
I finally read a book! It was The Residence: Inside The Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower. Very interesting - she interviewed "the help" at the White House from Kennedy to present. Lots of interesting stories!
Now I need to go pick out another book to read!

Well...I've discovered audio books. I've always seen the posters here comment on them, but never thought they were "for me". But, a co-worker recently moved to the suburbs and commented that she started listening. As I have the reverse commute from her, it really made me realize that I was missing out. So, better late than never, I guess.
I've recently listened to "The Passenger" by Lisa Lutz (based on some of the comments here) and "The Life we Bury" by Allen Eskens. Liked them both - taking me a little bit to get used to the voices. In "The Passenger", the narrater would sometimes speak very slowly for some of the voices, which I found a little annoying. In fact, I think I can still hear it! But, I enjoyed the books and have signed up for the 2x/month Amazon Audible deal.
Because I've become addicted, I needed another book for the rest of this week's drives. I downloaded "The Black Widow" by Daniel Silva. I've only read the previous book in the series, so hope I enjoy.
I'm going away for the weekend, which means I will read a real book! Will finally start "The Nightingale"

I'm sort of reading The Passage (Justin Cronin). I'm about 200 pages in and it's very addictive in that I want to find out what happens next. At the same time, it isn't really my type of book. It's very long (700 some pages) and it's the first of a trilogy. Has anyone here read the books and liked them enough to recommend going forward?
In the meantime, Vinegar Girl (Anne Tyler) just became available so I plan to read that first.

@Catty2, Robyn Carr is one of my all-time favorites! I am a mystery/psychological thriller fan first, however when I need a break from the intensity of those books, she is my first choice. I highly recommend her VIRGIN RIVER series. I also recommend reading them in order.

@Alter Ego, thanks for posting about your experience. I have wondered what it would be like as well to listen to audio books. One of these days, I will give it a try. If you have any great reads, please post! LM
