I'm excited to go to the library today and pick up the new book from David Rosenfelt, called "OUTFOXED", as well as the new James Patterson book, "BULLSEYE", in the Michael Bennett series.  If you enjoy Robert Crais' books, give David Rosenfelt a try.  His protagonist, Andy Carpenter, is a wise-cracking lawyer, with a soft spot for dogs.  His first book in the series is "OPEN AND SHUT", and the books do get better as the series progresses.

For the British mystery fans out there, there is a company that has started re-printing vintage mysteries from lesser-known authors.  If you Google "British Library Crime Classics Goodreads", you will get a list of 38 novels that are being re-published.  My library has some of these, so I am going to try a few.  I have never heard of any of these authors before, and I am a huge fan of mysteries.

Love the British Crime Classics,

the covers alone are worth a look.

Anyone who is a fan of the Golden Age of Mystery needs to check them out.

I got turned onto Rosamunde Pilcher's Shell Seekers and have since read almost everything she's written. I just finished Coming Home and I was absolutely blown away.

And I was so tickled to see an expression we use in our family thanks to my sweet nan from Devon. "I woke up at sparrow fart" meaning getting up really early, even before the birds do.

Wonderful book!

Love Rosamund Pilcher

I did the same read thru all her stuff

@dawg lover I must have missed this post on the British Library Classics. So I found something I liked and it was 45.00!!! Paperback!!! Is this the way it's going to go price wise? I know the library will never get them. Not in my lifetime!!! What's a reader to do?

@Judaline - Talk to your librarian about ordering them through the ILL (Inter-Library Loan) program. They only started printing them in 2015, so your library may not have them yet. Amazon has used copies of many of them for very low prices. I have read the 2 John Rowland books ("MURDER AT THE MUSEUM" and "CALAMITY IN KENT") and while they were good, they were not exceptional. I am picking up two more today at the library: "THE FEMALE DETECTIVE" and "A SCREAM IN SOHO."

@dawg lover I found Murder for Christmas (or something like that) at Alibris used books. I can usually count on them. I'm going to save it till December. I almost got the Soho one! I love the covers. And thanks to both of you for your recommendations of how to find them.

@smoky22 I read The Watchman because I love Joe Pike. He's like smoke-he just appears. I didn't like this 'sappy' side of Joe. Would rather not know his deep down feelings. But, a good book nonetheless.

@Judaline I finished The Watchman and I have mixed feelings about it.  I agree with you, good book, well plotted, but not sure about the Joe Pike persona. I think Robert Crais is like Elvis, but wishes he was like Joe Pike.

Re: What are You Reading? ~~ August 2016

Last night I stayed up into the middle of the night to finish The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, by Phaedra Patrick. It was worth every minute of sleep I lost!!

If you enjoyed A Man Called Ove, and Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, I believe you will LOVE Arthur Pepper.  Trust me on this one.

I also read The Last Mile by David Baldacci. It's book #2 of his Amos Decker series. I enjoyed it a lot.

I'm now reading Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler, my very favorite author. I'm not loving it quite yet, but I hope I will. I don't want to be disappointed, as I love her!

And...please read The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper. I want the whole world to read it and love it as I did!

Happy Reading!

I am taking your word for it.  Just put in a request at my library but there are 55 people in front of me!
