Re: What are You Reading? ~~ August 2016

Typing this with tears in my eyes as I just finished My Mrs. Brown by William Norwich.  Beautifully written story about a kind, lovely woman.  Totally unexpected gem of a novel.

Highly recommend.

@sassenach1 wasn't this such a wonderful book? I reviewed it earlier this month and I believe I called it a "hidden gem."

I love how a man wrote it, and was able to delve into the mind of this incredible woman. Loved it!!!

I finished The First Rule (2nd book featuring Joe Pike, but Elvis is in there too).  It was excellent.

Also read Farrier's Lane, (Anne Perry).  I was lukewarm about the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series at the beginning, but the last several have been really good.  This one was the best yet.  I'm anxiously waiting for the new Wm Monk out next month.

I have The Good Liar (Nichlas Searle) and Before The Fall (Noah Hawley) on my kindle.  Can't decide which one to read next.  Has anyone read either of these?

I would give BEFORE THE FALL four out of five stars.  I'm going to look up THE GOOD LIAR.

@smoky22 I liked The First Rule, too. Just finishing The Monkey's Raincoat, the first Elvis Cole. Lots of references to John Cassavetes. That Crais, what a card. This book is 'tougher' for lack of a better word. And there is 'love making' which surprised me. It's so obvious that Robert Crais has mellowed Elvis over the years because he himself has mellowed. I wonder if he knows it.Man Wink

I should add I liked this book lots-it's the one with all the book awards.

@sunala - yes, this is a hidden gem. What a good story. Norwich did an excellent job on her character. I hope this book is successful for him.

Re: What are You Reading? ~~ August 2016

I just finished Damaged, the new book by Lisa Scottolini.  I recommend it, but it was a tough book for me to read.  It is about a special education student who has been abused and underserved by the school.  As a teacher, it is hard to read about a student who so clearly was not having his needs met.

It takes place over just a few days and the action occurs quickly.  Mary and the rest of the lawyers are wonderful as always.  The conclusion was positive, so I was very satisfied in the end.
