I'm still wading through The Nature of the Beast. I think Louise and I have come to the parting of the ways. I love Three Pines and I like the characters and I like the FOOD! But no, can't do this anymore. Her last 3 I just couldn't get into or stay with and this is loooooong and I've gotten to where I don't even care about the bloody gun-whoops, bad choice of words. Onto the new Faith Sullivan book@Judaline I know what you mean.  This series seems to have run it's course.  Although she did leave the door open for something different in her next Gamache book.

I know this is a minority opinion but I loved her non Three Pines books the best.  Her first book was great because it introduced all the characters.  But after that I found the Three Pines people boring (sacrilege, I know).

I have always been more interested in Inspector Gamache away from Three Pines (and please, no more Clara centered books).  I think it's nice that he lives there now, and the characters are wonderful in the background, but I want the mystery to be about something else.  JMHO

I feel like I need to add that I think Louise Penny is a very gifted writer.  She writes beautifully.  Lately I've found her plots a little too contrived

@smoky22@Judaline, I am becoming less and less intrigued by anyone's series.  I said this earlier about Penny I think ... It must be hard to keep the story going while at the same time writing as though it is a stand alone book.  The danger is the amount of repetition.   I think I prefer the stand alone book myself.  It is not unusual for me to find an author I love and read everything they wrote.  Maybe not all at once.

Having just finished Robert Galbraith's book about Strike and Robin, I am through with that series.  Boring with a capital B for me.  I think the same about Louise Penny's last book.  Maybe another book in this series some time down the road but I would love to see her do something different.  I will read Louise Penny again.  Galbraith, not so sure.

You know, maybe I should go to her (Louise Penny s) FB page and say that!  LM

@smoky22@Judaline, i don't know why there is no separation between my post and smoky's...confusing a bit, yes?

When it rains , it pours.  For a while I had almost nothing to read and now 8 books became available to me.  I'm reading A Man Called Ove first.   About 25% in and so far I really like it.

I think The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine will be next. Then after that, Slade House  (David Mitchell).

I returned The Zig Zag Girl after reading one chapter.  It's nothing like the Ruth Galloway books.  I might try it again at a later time.

I, too, started The Zig Zag Girl with so much hope, as I love the Ruth Galloway books! I got about three chapters into it before I gave up.  Such a disappointment!

Hope you like "Ove"--it is really something special.

@Lilysmom I agree it was strange how your post seemed to just follow mine.  I understood where yours started.  Hope others did too.

Re: What Are You Reading --- November 2015

@smoky22 I so agree about Clara. As I've said before, I couldn't go on with the previous book because it centered around Clara and DH. I didn't care for either of them so I just PTB on it.

What do you mean about the next book being different??? You have my interest picqued.

I just love Rosa so much. Even with her four letter words. She's so dear just sitting in Ruth's lap. That's all she does, lol.

This book gave more specifics on the Three Pines location. I mean, I didn't know it was so desolate!

Also, for being policemen (virtually) Gamache and Beauvoir certainly are emotional-crying at times. I also saw in this book they are still not over the drama that occurred when Jean-Guy shot Gamache. TTYTT I am really not wanting to hear about it again, but the author never fails to mention it.

End of rant.

Re: What Are You Reading --- November 2015

@Judaline the new direction that future books may take has to do with Gamache

Spoiler
and he may be returning to the Surete, possibly as head of it.  I like that he now lives in Three Pines because that will keep your favorite characters in her books (if he can continue to live in Three Pines and still be the head of the Surete) but the mystery will be about something else.  How many mysteries can she devise that happen in this out of the way place?  I thought the whole gigantic gun thing in Three Pines was extremely far fetched.  And she left it kind of open ended with the serial killer.  Not sure if she is planning to bring that into the next book (and I'm not a fan of giving serial killers so much book space, but that seems to be the trend and sells books, apparently). Sorry this is so long.  Hope it wasn't more than you wanted to know.

My turn at the library came up finally for Rogue Lawyer by John Grisham.  I really enjoyed this book (liked it much better than his last one).  I saw him interviewed on Charlie Rose and he said this is going to become a series.  He also talked about how much he admired the lawyers who were not into it just for the money.

Re: What Are You Reading --- November 2015

Just finished Margaret Atwood''s The Heart Goes Last.  I didn''t like it.  It''s about a couple who went to work in a prison during an economic collapse.  The prison is in a town called Consilience & the project is called Positron.  There is full employment & everyone has a house & food to eat.

I thought the characters were just a little too fluffy.  There was no depth.

Well as a big fan of Margaret, I couldn''t get in this book.  I usually read her books in three days or so but it''s taken me over a week.  Gave it 3 stars on Goodreads.  If you like dystopian, I would highly recommend her Maddadam series.

Thanks

Re: What Are You Reading --- November 2015

Last night I finished All Dressed in White by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke.  This is the second book in the Under Suspicion series.  I really liked this book.  I love MHC's writing style.  I thought for sure I had the murderer picked out and thought the book was so predictable, but of course I was wrong.

This is a good book for someone who wants a good, clean read.  There are no "adult situations" or swearing in it.

Re: What Are You Reading --- November 2015

@smoky22 (btw hahahahaha, Jud, smoky/honey, now I want ribs) if you remember could you please tag me after you've read "Slade House"?  I'm on the fence about it and as you know, I buy my books.  We get one coupon each year at this time for 30% off a book and I'm thinking of using it for "Slade House" but not sure if it's, IMO, overly intellectual, like "House of Leaves", which I detested, absolutely one of the worst books I've ever read.  Thanks if you remember and if you don't.  P.S.  Jealous you're reading Ove.  I've already gifted it three times, maybe more to come.
