Re: What Are You Reading? December 2018

I just got home from an 11 night cruise for which I had loaded up my kindle.  Here's what I read:

Holy Ghost by John Sandford.  This was excellent and I highly recommend it.  It is the newest in the Vigil Flowers series, which I love.

The Guilty Dead by PJ Tracy.  This is the newest in the Monkeewrench series and was wonderful.  I highly recommend this one.

You Don't Own Me by Mary Higgins Clark.  This is the newest in the Under Suspicion series.  This one was also great and I recommend it.

A Willing Murder by Jude Deveraux.  Compared to the others, this was not as good.  I have always liked this author, but I found this book a little simple and trite.  It was just ok.  I think it is the beginning of a series, but I'm not sure I will read more.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah.  I re-read this book because my book club will discuss it on Monday.  It was just as good the second time.  It is a tough book to read, but totally worth it.  The writing is amazing and Alaska becomes a critical character in this worthy read.

@icezeus I'm going to put John Sanford on the list of authors to try.

@kitty45

My only advice would be to read them in order. He has recurring characters. The main one being Lucas Davenport if you decide to read the "Prey" books.

I also enjoy Sanfords books featuring "Virgil Flowers". I have slowed down on those, because I did not want to jump too much ahead of the "Prey" series which I am still reading. Virgil Flowers works for Lucas Davenport. However, he is further down the time frame as far as Lucas Davenports life.

Re: What Are You Reading? December 2018

I finished listening to Reese Witherspoon’s December book club pick, One Day in December by Josie Silver. A little romance about a boy and girl locking eyes at a bus stop and then continued circumstances keeping them apart. Told from both viewpoints. I was worried that Hallmark’s constant romantic movies would ruin books like this for me, but I did enjoy it (Hallmark would be proud of its ending!) A nice little read.

Judaline, yes, that's the correct story ("A Christmas Memory"). But in addition to watching the video, please read the story: it is so wondrously told. The portrayal of his elderly cousin (who is "still a child") is so moving.

@icezeus I have read all of John Sandford's books, and I would say 95% of them are great.  Every once in a while, he writes one that is not as strong.  But, keep going, as you have lots of great books ahead of you!  His new Virgil Flowers book, "HOLY GHOST" is one of his best books in the series.

I never finished A Man Called Ove. I got through about a third of the book, but couldn't get into it. The characters didn't interest me, and the whole concept didn't work. I returned it already, so others can have the chance to read it. They'll probably like it more than I did.

Started Terri Blackstock When Dreams Cross, which is more of a spiritual romance than suspense. So far, I haven't read a bad story by her. Her book Catching Christmas is one my "to read" list, but it's not available from the library. I'll need to join a waiting list for that one.

Someone here recommended SWORN TO SILENCE,by Linda Castillo, The book was very good, but a bit slow and I couldn’t get a good Handel on the characters  That being said maybe it’s the holiday time ,but I expected to enjoy the book more than I did. I felt a lack of energy in this book,that disappointed me. I really  did not feel this book the way I wanted to.
