This book thread is started on the first of each month.
Some suggestions for posting here:
~ underline, bold or CAPITALIZE the name of the book you're reading - it makes it easier for us readers to see what it is
~ include the author of the book - there are so many books with the same title (if you are recommending a book we want to make sure we read the right one!)
~ post a few words about the book - would you recommend it or not?
~ tell us the book genre - is it a mystery, romance, historical, biography, etc.
***There is no obligation to do any of the above
------------------------------------------------------
And we're off with another month...
I'm going to start The Residence by Kate Andersen Brower. This book contains true stories about the service staff who worked at the White House.
Happy reading all! lainey

"The Calamity Janes Cassie & Karen" by Sherryl Woods. So far, so good. There is a big class reunion that is bringing together some high school gorlfrineds. One has a secret that she istrying her best to keep. It is a double book. The other one is "Courting the Enemy."

Finished 2 books in one -- Suzanna and Megan by Nora Roberts. Took me a long time since it was 2 books in one. This is the first time I've read this kind of book and never again. That said, it was just ok.
Onto Ayelet Waldman's Daughter's Keeper.

I put off reading this book, because I thought I was attracted to this novel just because I love the bird, but finally read it and loved it!
The Goldfinch by author Donna Tartt. It is a long book, but love the first person narrative, the characters, the heart of a collector, the gnawing secrets, the inner thoughts of this young man. I tend to read more mysteries, historical novels or fantasy tales, so this modern contempory novel was a true departure for me.
Continuing in the art world, I also just finished The Art Forger by BA Shapiro. I enjoyed this novel and found all the technical descriptions of how art is created, copied, collected interesting. Fun mystery and suspense keep the story moving and easy to read. Many have compared to Da Vinci Code storyline. It is a fictionalized account of the unsolved 1990 art heist from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. Included in that robbery were priceless masterpieces of Rembrandt, Vermeer and Degas.

@Tee4u I loved The Goldfinch, both the cover and the book!
I finished The Silkworm this morning. I must say that it lacked the enrgy of
The Cuckoo, for me.
I will start At the Edge of the Orchard by Tracy Chevalier today. The Girl with the Pearl Earring is one of my favorite books, so I'm always on the lookout for another work by this author. So far, nothing has come close to Pearl Earring, though.
This book involves a Ohio couple who grow apples, for eating and the ever-popular apple jack, and their son, who joins the westward movement in the 1800"s.

@lainey1, thanks for keeping us going!!! I just started MEMORY MAN BY DAVID BALDACCI. I am about 70 pages in to a 400 page book. So far, so good. I think it is going to be a good one. Will post again when I finish. LM
I finished this today. It was just ok for me. I would give it 3 out of five. FYI, Goodreads rates it 4 out of 5. I didn't think it was as good as his others. LM

New to forum as a poster, but a long time reader.
Just finished Rubbernecker by Belinda Bauer very good,
Corrupted by Lisa Scottoline, an author discovered here. Really liked the characters, will read more of her.
currently reading A Little Life, excellent so far, beautifully crafted, but 740 pages by Hanya Yanagihara.

I just finished After You by Jojo Moyes. It was good but I should have read Me Before You first, I would have enjoyed it more. Now I am reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, by Helen Simonson, really good. I am next in line at the library for The Summer Before The War by the same author, so looking forward to that.

I finished the 2nd Maisie Dobbs, Birds of a Feather, and it's probably my last. The main character (maid turned psychologist/detective) is annoyingly perfect, with unbelievable methods of detection. And the supporting characters are stock one dimensional. Very high reviews on Amazon, just not for me.
I'm on to Royal Blood, the 4th in the Royal Spyness series and also The Road to Little Dribbling (Bill Bryson).
