For me, it was "The Orchid Thief," by Susan Orlean.

This was more "meh" to me versus worst of the year. BUT, it did really annoy me that it was selected as Goodread's top Mystery/Thriller of 2019. Especially when there were so many (IMO) better books under consideration.

Not the worst book, but I was disappointed in A Man Called Ove. It had many rave reviews, but the book did nothing for me. I read about a third before quitting.

I didn't like "The Life We Bury" though it was well received by others. I did not finish "Goldfinch". I could not get into it at all.

Shocked about Cleo Coyle's since I love her books. I'm way behind though. I get her mixed up with Sandra Balzo since they both write a coffee series. Not sure who I like better though.

I am in agreement with you. Most of my books come from the Library, I can tell within a couple of chapters if I am going to finish it or not. I don't waste my time. I will return a book in a heartbeat.
I did purchase a book from e-bay that someone posted about in our monthly "what did you read book thread". My library did not carry it. The book was called Guilty Pleasures by Laurell Hamilton (HORRIBLE) I gave 70 pages of my life, before tossing it. Ughhh. just horrible.

And Amazon's Best Mystery as well and I think the NY Times and some other important Best of the Years, and they're not all out yet.
It surprises me GR is usually in line with other lists since it's regular people voting and they're from all over the world.
(BTW I didn't read The SIlent Patient)

If I had stopped Where the Crawdads Sing at 25 pages I would have missed one of the best books I've ever read. It took a while for me to adjust to the dialect and I'm very glad I hung in.

Wow, looking at my books it was a very good year!
Worst:
Hot Little Hands (DNF)
Nima - Yentl of the Himalayas but not
A Polar Affair - (the perverted one about the sex lives of penguins and arctic explorers)
ETA: Rabbits for Food
All review books. I'm much more careful now. When we accept books for review we're not supposed to DNF'ing and have to be careful how many of anything we choose not to review. Hot Little Hands is the only review book I couldn't bear and DNF'd.
