Many thanks to the posters who recommended "TH1RT3EN" (13) by Steve Cavanagh.  Great legal thriller, a real page-turner.  I really enjoyed it.

@dawg lover that was me & truly a great thriller!  I will be reading his next; TWISTED.  If you haven't read THE CHAIN by Adrian McKinty please consider it; movie rights just sold!

Many thanks @BornToShop .  I read THE CHAIN too, and enjoyed it (more the first half than the second.)  I would definitely see that movie!

Someone We Know by Shari Lapena (4 Stars)

The novel by Shari Lapena does not disappoint. It is well written, with excellent use of language and flow of story line as the story begins with a violent murder in upstate NY. But who is killed? By whom? Why?

As the plot unfolds, the new couple's husband on the block reports his young, attractive and flirtatious wife missing. A techy teenager has been breaking into neighborhood homes. Whose spouses have been having liasons? Another teen is drinking a lot. Parents are worried about their kids. Neighbors are worried about their homes being broken into. Gossip is rampant. Detectives interviews ensue and continue and continue. And, another murder by strangulation with a cord-like object.

If you are bored with many of the routine mystery/crime novels recently, this is a very good change of pace. Shari Lapena's intricate details and creative imagination provides the reader with an unusual book which isn't easy to figure out until near the end.

This is the second book of hers that I've read and I intend to follow her on Goodreads! She's that enjoyable of an author. I could not put this book down late last night and this morning.

@BirkiLady This is the only one of hers that I haven't read. I love her books! I will add this one to the top of my list! Thanks for your take on it.

I just finished this book too, and thought it was very good.  My, what a "busy" neighborhood!

Harbor me by Jacqueline Woodson.  This is a middle grade book.  Even though I get immersed in the characters when I read,  I don't usually get weepy.  This book had me boo-hooing.  Six "special"  kids in a Brooklyn middle school spend 1 hour on Fridays' in an empty classroom talking.

Wishtree by Katherine Applegate.  (middle grade)

The Far Field by Madhuri Vijay. (fiction)

[ Edited ]

Boring Monday Night Football game so clicked that off and finished

"The Obsession" by Nora Roberts.

Suspense, mystery and a little romance.  Add in reading about Naomi's love of photography and her decorating style, made it a book I enjoyed.  Of course there must be a handsome man - Xander.  My mental image of him was two thumbs up worthy.Woman Wink

I had the "who done it" figured out - but I usually do figure these things out early on.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? OCTOBER 2019

I just finished Carmilla, by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu on Audible and am now listening to Good and Mad: The Revolutionary Power of Women's Anger, by Rebecca Traister.

The audio was dramatized and done very well. It was appropriately creepy.

I'm also still reading Flat Crazy, by Ben Rehder.
