@LoriLori Strap on your boots, and hold yourself back, Fredrik Beckman has a new novella coming out on October 31, 2017 titled : The Deal of a Lifetime" Stock up on the kleenex it looks like this one will be a multi tissue read, I had to request our library to order it, but the question is:  Can I wait that long, or should I just plunge and buy it so I can get my hot little hands on it, that is the question?

@CareBears, smooch!  And another smooch!!!

For some reason I'm not getting my marketing emails from Amazon and so I had no idea about this.  Ordered it the second I read your post!  Heart  I think he's the only author right now who I can honestly say I will follow him anywhere.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? OCTOBER 2017

Last night I finished Before We Were Yours, by Lisa Wingate. I enjoyed it so much, although I have to admit I got confused at times as to who was who back then and today. As I was reading, I was thinking that I should write down who was who, but then it kind of came to me. I was still a little bit confused at the end, but I think now I've got it.

Did anyone else feel that way?

Today I started The Book of Separation by Tova Mirvis. It's a true story about this author, who was an Orthodox Jew her whole life, and at the age of 40 divorced her husband and started a new life.

I've enjoyed all her books of fiction and thought I'd enjoy this as well. So far, so good.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? OCTOBER 2017

[ Edited ]

I read and finished today "Haunted" by James Patterson/James O Born a Detective Michael Bennett Thriller, I enjoy this character in James Patterson books, this was a fast & enjoyable read for me.  When his son is arrested and convicted for dealing drugs Michael Bennett vows to himself that he will find the monster who is involving high school children in their deplorable drug sales, when a teenager is found dead it becomes an even more urgent manner.  Since he and his family have not been on any kind of vacation in years, Michael feels it might be a good time to step away, clear his head so he can refocus on his son's case as no leads have been discovered and he is becoming frustrated.  When he arrives in Main at a lake rental property with his children/nanny/girlfriend the family seems to settle into come form of  semblance of order for the first time in months.  But then he receives a call from a former partner asking him a favor just to help in crowd control during a parade that is held locally in the small town in Maine, he agrees and has a wonderful time meeting the locals and seeing his children enjoying themselves.  And then a 2nd call comes from his ex partner asking for another favor, this one being to help with a case to try to locate & find two local missing teens, could these missing teenagers be involved in something more sinister?  Michal Bennett rises to the occasion while he puts his vacation on hold, and this is where the story leads the reader into the back alleys of the drug trade that hits even small town America, is there anywhere safe anymore?  I enjoyed reading this, it is indeed a fast read, you do not need to be a former Michael Bennett fan to  pick up this book and learn about his past the author catches the reader up fairly inconspicuously and does not take away from the current story.  If you like this character Michael Bennett this one will not disappoint!

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? OCTOBER 2017

[ Edited ]

I just finished Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng.  I had read some bad reviews on this book (I think here) so I was hesitate to read it but glad I did.  My only complaint is that it left you hanging at the end.  There are 879 on the waiting list at my library - WOW!

From the bestselling author of Everything I Never Told You, the intertwined stories of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the mother and daughter who upend their lives. In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned - from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules. Enter Mia Warren - an enigmatic artist and single mother - who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community. When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town--and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides. Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia's past. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs. Little Fires Everywhere explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, and the ferocious pull of motherhood - and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster.--Provided by Publisher.

I also recently read Close to Home by Robert Dugoni.  His mysteries are fun for me to read because they are set in the Seattle area so I can really picture what he is talking about.  This is his latest in a series of books.

While investigating the hit-and-run death of a young boy, Seattle homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite makes a startling discovery: the suspect is an active-duty serviceman at a local naval base. After a key piece of case evidence goes missing, he is cleared of charges in a military court. But Tracy knows she can’t turn her back on this kind of injustice. When she uncovers the driver’s ties to a rash of recent heroin overdoses in the city, she realizes that this isn’t just a case of the military protecting its own. It runs much deeper than that, and the accused wasn’t acting alone. For Tracy, it’s all hitting very close to home. As Tracy moves closer to uncovering the truth behind this insidious conspiracy, she’s putting herself in harm’s way. And the only people she can rely on to make it out alive might be those she can no longer trust.

@DiAnne Everything I Never Told you was the first I read of this author and before I had even finished it I was searching for more of her works.  Little Fires was waiting at the library for me the next day and wow it was sooo good.  I never saw any bad reviews but I did not really look for any.  So glad you enjoyed.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? OCTOBER 2017

@DiAnne  I agree. Robert Dugoni is good. I'm picking up my second Tracy Crosswhite book today. I didn't know it was a series when I read my first one, so now I'm all out of order. #2 and skipped to #5!  I guess I'll go back to the beginning and read them all. Are they all good?

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? OCTOBER 2017

I just saw that I'm #1800 on a waitlist of 2400 for the new Stephanie Plum. Oh, well, happy Thanksgiving. Or maybe even Christmas.
