Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? MAY 2020

Finished Abbi Waxman's The Bookish Life of Nina Hill.  I loved it as much as her others.  Can't wait to read her upcoming one too.

I'm  going to try to read Olive, Again by Elizabeth Strout.  Even though I really didn't like Olive Kitteridge.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? MAY 2020

Today I finished No Good Deed by Heather Chavez.  The plot intrigued me.  I was disappointed in the book though.  I did not care for the author's style of writing.  I thought she tried too hard to be clever and cute.  Sometimes it worked, sometimes it was just too much of a stretch.  The story got too involved and she seemed to want to cram several stories into one book.  The story line became rather convoluted and some of the scenes at the end of the book were too unbelieveable.  This is a new author.  In spite of my review, her book seems to be well received.  She shows promise; maybe I will like one of her future books.

@roeroe1005 I have been reading with hoopla and it serves its purpose. They do not have many of the newest books, but I have found enough to read so far. I can read many more than 4 books a month, which is a good thing because I do not like every book I choose so I just return it. I so miss going to the library and holding a “real” book.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? MAY 2020

Don't ask me why I wanted to read Olive Again by Elizabeth Strout (yes, I entered to win it and won it).  I hated Olive Kitteridge and some of her others but decided to give it a chance.  I got to page 39 and said nope.  I didn't even get to the chapter about her.  It seemed it was going to be about angry people and she was one of them in her last book if I can recall.  I'm in the minority once again w/this book.

Onto Alison Ragsdale's The Art of Remembering, a new author for me.

I'm reading A World Lit Only By Fire by William Manchester. The subtitle is The Medievil Mind and the Renaissance. Really interesting reading.  Its an older book written in 1992. I had just finished The Mirror and the Light, so this book is the perfect companion.

I am binge reading the NATCHEZ BURNING trilogy by one of my all-time favorite authors, GREG ILES.  He is such a masterful author; this trilogy is 600+ pages per book. Perfect to make the time go by!

I read that Trilogy summer before last .. loved them ....

I recently finished So Pretty It Hurts by Kate White.  It's a murder mystery who-done-it and I had no idea who did it until near the end of the book.  Very good read.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? MAY 2020

I just finished Stephen King's latest - IF IT BLEEDS which is a collection of four short stories - actually one - If It Bleeds - is more of a novella - and a sequel to his THE OUTSIDER.  Great book - I loved all the stories.

[ Edited ]

I am still being loaned many books from my boss' wife and her sister.  Most are young adult books since she has three daughters from college age to recent graduate in the past few years.  Her sister brought me a ton this weekend and one was Ruth Ware's, Woman In Cabin 10.  I cannot believe I had not read that, I thought for months that I had and passed it by back when library was open. Great book.
