Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? MARCH, 2020

Tonight I just finished The Guardians by John Grisham.  It has been a bestseller for a few months; I know it has been mentioned here before.  I thought it was good, not great.  The main character deserves a lot of sympathy.  I'm trying to avoid spoilers. If you enjoy Grisham as an author, it's worth your time to read this entry.  I have read several of his books, not all of them.  I know he has a loyal following.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? MARCH, 2020

@Judaline   Hi, pal, answering you here (and in a spoiler box so as not to disrupt the forum)

Spoiler

because not liking what's out there on these forums and haven't for a while.  So sticking to Home Base Books and Survivor which will end in May...

I don't think I had it or have it but I'm sticking close to home.  I canceled a specialist appointment this week but I have one next week I had to keep (postop LOL).  It's very hard to get my mother to maintain a safe distance -- or any distance! -- and that's concerning.

She knows about the respirators in that town in Italy although can't imagine that happening here although who knows, really?  She wants to live, she just can't help herself.  Beaches are closed, parks are closed (another reason I miss NY so much, Cuomo made the parks which include beaches in NY free and said get out and get fresh air, here the idiots close them), malls closed, hair salon closing and we didn't get in in time, more and more there's no place to go even without a quarantine and I imagine many people not under quarantine are experiencing the same Smiley Sad

Thanks, my friend, stay well...I'm practical, if I get it so be it, it can live on the mail and I do my best but this is one tough freaking virus.  Just want to outlive mom.  BE SAFE!  YOU AND YOURS!  Write back if you want and until we speak again, be safe, be well, you have risk factors and other things can still get us so be well 💗

My new infatuation with graphic novels grows.  Wonderful when you can't concentrate.  Have one on the way that's drawings accoimpanying classic poems including Invictus and Prufrock (my favorite).  There's even a graphic novel edition of The Handmaid's Tale.  Whole new world!  Smiley Happy

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? MARCH, 2020

I read Antiques Chop by Barbara Allen a cozy mystery.

Gwendy's Magic Feather by Richard Chizmar which is a novella and book two in a series.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J. K. Rowling book five in the series. These books keep getting better and better. I can see why they are beloved by young and old.

Big Sky by Kate Atkinson (3.75 Stars)

The Night Fire by Michael Connelly (4.25 Stars)

Mennonite in a Little Black Dress A Memoir of Going Home

     by Rhoda Janzen (4.25 Stars)

Our libraries closed to the public last night. Today is the last day to return books and pick up books already on HOLD. The librarians will meet the public at the front door (in the fresh air) only. Glad they are being safe.

I'm leaving my home for the first time this week to return books and pick up books on HOLD. This is going to be the biggest loss for me until I'm able to get outside and enjoy my yard and flowerbeds. STAY SAFE EVERYONE.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU READING? MARCH, 2020

@LoriLori

The first graphic novel I ever read was for a literacy coaching initiative book club:

Maus is a graphic novel by American cartoonist Art Spiegelman, serialized from 1980 to 1991. It depicts Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor. The work employs postmodernist techniques and represents Jews as mice, Germans as cats, and Poles as pigs.

Graphic novels are a great for encouraging teens, and adults, to read.

@LoriLori  I haven't read Prufrock in a long time.  One of my favorites, too.  I have a hard copy here somewhere.  But i just downloaded a free version to my kindle.  I bet the graphic is really good with drawings.

[ Edited ]

I just finished All The Forgivenesses by Elizath Hardinger, it was very good! It at times was hard to read due to butchering of animals, lost live!  But it was also eye opening and overall a deep meaning to learn from, after reading this book I am thankful I did not grow up in those times, life was too hard!

I just finished Peter Heller's THE RIVER.  Intense, good story.  He is the author of THE DOG STARS, which starts of with a flu pandemic.

Louisa Luna's TWO GIRLS DOWN has two interesting characters.  I finished the book and immediately put in for her next book THE JANES.

i have an Attica Locke book ready to go.  HEAVEN, MY HOME.
