@FindingMyJoy wrote:This year, I started the Louise Penny Inspector Gamache mystery series. I've been enjoying them until this one The Beautiful Mystery. It's book #8 and in my opinion it's a dud. It had an interesting setting - remote located abbey full of monks where 1 of them is murdered. However after a while, all of the monks blend together and go on and on and on about how they swoon over their chants. It got quite boring...so bad that I debated about quitting. Then I went to Goodreads to read reviews. Several mentioned that this was a dud but to at least finish it since it leads into the next book. I decided to skip over boring chapters and finished the last 3 chapters to find out the murderer and see what could be so important for the next book. I already have the next book from the library but decided to take a few days to read something else first then return after the dread disappears from reading this dud.
I think this is the one that made me decide, no more Louise Penny. I don't have time for books that don't hold my interest. Other books await!

@CANDLEQUEEN Where The Crawdads Sings is certainly the best of the two! It's an outstanding book. Valentine was one of the better reads of 2020 but we haven't had many really good books like were written in 2019, which was a great year for authors and readers. Enjoy both books!

I just finished This Was Not The Plan by Cristina Alger, I loved this book! A lawyer who works non-stop is suddenly a single father after his wife dies in a plane crash, thankfully his twin sister steps up to the plate, to watch his son, After a drunken night, he makes a speech that places the firms reputation at stake and is fired! What this forces him to realize what is important in life and what isn't! The 5 year old boy in this story is such a funny, intelligent little man!

Just finished 28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand. I'm glad I read it but to me it was 100 pages too long. A lot of details about "sort of" minor characters but it was good not great. 3.5 stars out of 5 on GR.
I usually don't read the same author 2 books in a row, but have been dying to read Summer of '69 by her more so than 28 Summers so I'm going to start that one next. Hopefully, it'll be a "little" better to my liking.

I finished reading A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. It's hard to put into words my feelings for this book. It definitely starts off slow, but when it picks up, it's a page turner. I just found the book made me sad and angry. Poor Amanda who is murdered in a horrible fashion, but you get to know her since a majority of the book is written from her perspective about a week before her death. Then you have LIzzie's perspective and Zach who is is a world class A** hole. I could go on but I do not want to spoil the book for others that might wish to read.
Sometime this weekend I will start my next book China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan.
Edited to add that I am throwing in the towel on China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin kwan. I am 50 pages, in and it's doing nothing for me. Too many characters all of them Filthy Rich (Billionaires) and I just don't care. This is why I love getting my books from the library. No money lost.
I am moving on to Cruel Intent by J.A. Jance.

I love the Virgil Flower Series (John Sanford), Yes, you need to start from the first book. I am seven or eight books in. I slowed myself down on reading them because these books are a spin off from another series. The Prey Series (Lucas Davenport) by John Sanford.
Lucas Davenport is Virgil's boss.
