Today I finished Eleanor Oliphant is Perfectly Fine. I know most of you probably read it back when it was new. It is my book club book for September. I found the book troubling, but it will bring out good discussion in my club. The discussion questions provided by the publisher are pretty good.
I have read comments by some people who found it funny. Even the author mentioned humor in the afterward interview. I did not find it funny at all, but rather sad and pitiful. I did not anticipate the plot twist at the end. Looking back I can see some signs, but didn't notice at the time so it was quite a surprise. I was satisfied with the ending.
I would not have read this book if it wasn't for my book club. One of the reasons I am in book club is to "force" me to read something other than my usual choices. So, I am glad I read it and I recommend it unless childhood trauma is a trigger for you.

Hi @CareBears
I've been reading the Joanne Demaio books throughout the summer. Here and there, I read another author's book that is on my reading list.
Too many books, so little time to read with all that is going on in life.
Hope you are well.

Just finished 'The Year We Left Home' by Jean Thompson, another well-reviewed family saga that is unique and absorbing.

Just finished THE WIVES, by Tarryn Fisher, it was so good, I read it so fast! This was a fantastic psychological thriller! I will definitely pick up more books by this author. It started off really good and just kept going and the ending was so twisty and crazy, I had to re-read it!
Now I am in the middle of another really good book called THE STRANGER'S WIFE, by Anna Lou Weatherly, it is so good, I am zipping through this one too!

Miss Austen, by Gill Hornby. This novel is told by the elderly sister of Jane Austen who before her own death does not want Jane's personal letters found and have her reputation tarnished. The story goes back and forth between the early 1800's and their decisions to marry or not to marry and 1845 when Cassandra is the only one left.

@lork wrote:Today I finished "Summer of '69", by Elin Hilderbradn. It was a great Summer read, although it was a world apart from my life. I graduated from HS in "69, but there were no Nantucket beach houses in my Kansas world. The Vietnam War, Woodstock, the Apollo 11 mission, and almost all of the music noted were a sign of my times. This was a book of family dynamics with a sprinkling of racial. religious and economic concerns. Then there was a suicide, the Chappaquiddick incident, sexual assault, drinking, drugs and marital infidelity. . . All in all the perfect novel, and it even had me blinking tears at the thought of a Thanksgiving dinner table set with an extra chair (and small flag) for the absent loved one at war.
tried to read this but just couldn't

@Lilysmom wrote:@FindingMyJoy , her latest, All the Devils Are Here, is being released I early September. Three Pines is based on a location in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada. It is a beautiful location to visit. I am Canadian and actually lived here for six weeks doing an intense Executive management program.
I have read all of Louise Penny's books and am looking forward to her latest. LM
@Lilysmom It sounds like a very pretty area. Now with covid still raging, it's nice to read these books with an interesting far-away location to daydream about life elsewhere. Its quite impressive how the author keeps putting out quality books. Looking at reviews of the series, it's quite consistent good reviews which is rare for most series the author hits a slump or people complain the quality has gone down. I look foward to reading more of her books.
I did decide however to switch it up and try something new. I visited the cozy-mystery website and decided to randomly see which new-to-me authors had ebooks available at my library. I found 4 different cozy mysteries to try
Yesterday I started To Fudge or Not To Fudge by Nancy Coco. It's a series set on Mackinac Island. I had visited that island a few years ago and loved it. This book so far feels like a nice minivacation back to the island. It's a quirky bunch of characters so far, very light on the murder (dog found some foot bones). The main character owns a hotel/fudge shop so there are a lot of the story so far revolving around her making fudge...oh yeah it's making me crave fudge LOL.

Just finished The Other Mrs, by Mary Kubica, just seeing this authors name I knew I was in store for a thrilling read, and I was so right! This is by far my favorite book of hers that I have read, when all was revealed I applauded the author for an excellent book!
