Re: The Traveling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

@LoriLori This book sounded interesting so I went to Amazon to research it. I was reading the reviews and I came to a review by Angie 4 on Jan. 15 2018 that may explain why the cat on the cover doesn't match the cat in the book. I didn't really understand it not having read the book myself but maybe it will mean something to you. Anyway, maybe this will answer the question of the mismatched cats.

@abbalulu, thank you so much for that!  @Judaline@Yahooey,

The reviewer wrote that the illustrator is "disabled" and that's why the cats don't match.  I must be a cold-hearted witch because the fact thatt he illustrator is disabled moves me not at all.  The cat is the wrong color.  If this person can do an illustration they can do it in the right colors LOL.  I hope I don't sound stubborn and unreasonable although maybe I'm being both.

Re: The Traveling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

@abbalulu, hmmmm, how did someone get a Kindle copy of a book that isn't out here in Kindle?  I know the other reviews are overseas or bought from the few Amazon has.  But a Kindle copy exists here -- that would be great news for a lot of people who e-read!!!

@LoriLori

I totoally agree. So if this disableed illustrator drew a dog - they would use it? The illustration is very good - surely she knows her colors? I don't understand the explanation.

Re: The Traveling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

@LoriLori Now I would be interested in googling the illustrator as that explanation doesn't really make sense. Also, when I went back to check again I did notice, like you mentioned, that some of the reviews said they were from a kindle edition and a verified purchase but there is no kindle version on Amazon. So how do they verify this, I wonder? After all this conversation I guess I will have to break down and order the book as it does sound like something I would like.

@abbalulu, @Yahooey:

I read the end note.  It's not signed by author, editor or publisher and it says in looking on line for illustrations for the cover "they" found this one done by an artist with cerebral palsy who works out of a charity studio in China for disabled artists, and they fell in love with it.

"They" give his name and the URL of the charity and the title of the work, "Man and the World."  So the title makes no sense either, really.  I'd call it "A Black Cat.".

I find their explanation unsatisfactory.  Why not respect the content of this book about a man and his cat, and help the artist, by commissioning a painting from him of the cat in the book.  Or if he's unable, commission from another disabled artist if that's the point.  JMO.  You know I always have one!

On Goodreads it's clear all or most of the reviews are from overseas.  That Kindle verified one threw me too.  Huh?

I hope you love the book.  I love it a lot (can ya tell?).

I agree that if they wanted to help the charity/studio - they could have asked the artist to draw a cat that is more fitting of the book. Maybe something is lost in the translation. Man and the world? Man is cat?

I have to admit that one of the reasons I bought the book is because of the black cat on the cover (I'm partial to black cats as I have one).  Now I'm disappointed that the cat is not really black. I'm sure I will still love the book but I wanted the cat to be black. lol.  Just goes to show, don't judge a book by its cover (thanks @Judaline)  and you don't always get what you want, haha.

And @LoriLori  I really got a kick out of how you described your dislike of the new Flavia cover.  I guess I have to go hide now because I kind of like it.

And by the way, I have to tell you I agree with everything you said on that other thread.  That thread has become a monster.  I'm not going back there for love or money.

Re: The Traveling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

@Judaline@smoky22@Yahooey@abbalulu & hopefully others:

Finished it (reluctantly).  This book is a thing of beauty.  It is so touching and also thanks to Nana the cat's snark and sarcasm and observations it's also funny.   Part work of art, part stand-up routine, part simply prosaic.  So much between the covers.

I love it.  I'm so glad I own it, I will read it again for sure, maybe many times over time.  I will order more and gift them to a small handful of friends.  I cherish this book.
