I'm not far in but I cannot tell you how much I love this book.  It's by a Japanese author and translated by a translator who has translated Haruki Murikami.

On the inside jacket of the paperback it says: 

"It's not the journey that counts, but who is at your side.  

"Nana [that's the cat] is on a road trip, but he is not sure where to.  All that matters is that he can sit beside his beloved Satoro in the front of his silver van.  Satoro is keen to visit three old friends from his youth, though Nana doesn't know why and Satoro won't say.

Here's the thing:  I don't understand why but it hasn't been published in the U.S.  It's a honey of a book.  I read a very popular book, "The Guest Cat" by Takashi Hiraide and I thought it was trite and uninteresting.  This is not.  This is awesome.  Nana has a wise and sarcastic narrative voice.

THE TRAVELING CAT CHRONICLES is so great -- extraordinary! -- it starts out great and it gets better and better. 

Book Depository UK has it and free shipping always (by slow boat).  But maybe interested readers can ask your libraries or whatever.  Goodreads has a lot of reviews so maybe it's available in ebook somehow in the US.  

Seriously.  I hate typing.  I love this book!!!   This book is worth it to tell people about it who might love it like I do.  Oh, the feels!  And the laughs!  And I think it may break my heart but that's okay.  It's great to come upon such a well-written book that is full of feels and humor (hi, Ove).

I was curious so I checked on Amazon. You can find it there. It is in hardback or paperback but not Kindle (my preference).

What am I missing?  I double-checked and there's a hardback on Amazon for $41 and seven paperbacks all but one of which are coming from Europe and most cost more than I got it for at Book Depository UK, which ships free.

I wish we could link to Amazon, is it somewhere else I missed or is that where you're seeing it?

@on the bay, yes and of the paperbacks:

4 used, all of which have shipping charges so they cost more than I paid at Book Depository UK, which has free shipping for everything

7 new, only one from the US but 3 of them with free shipping that cost about what I paid at Book Depository UK and the other 4 are total ripoffs

So basically one of the new books can be head at a good price from the US.  The others, better off to buy from Book Depository UK.

I really don't get it.  The book is soooooooooo wonderful!!!!!

It does sound good but I just can't if its a sad ending even with all the five star reviews.

I'll post on the monthly thread after I finish it.  Without spoiling the ending I'll let you know if it's unbearably sad.
