The Five Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand

I love this book! I met Elin at a local library some years ago, and I've been reading her books since.

She has announced her retirement after one more book- maybe next summer. Then she will focus on other things.

Anyway, the premise of this latest one really intrigued me. I had never heard of "five star weekends" before. Elin says she got the idea from another writer who went on one.

You invite 4 best friends from different parts of your life:

1. high school

2. college/after high school

3. raising children/30's and 40's

4. your current life

5. you!

These women probably won't know each other, or may have met but only once or twice. The only thing they have in common is YOU! You can probably structure it however you would like when it comes to your invitees!

I thought it would be fun if we could think about who we would invite. Pretend money is no problem, as you will be hosting and planning and paying for everything!

Who would you invite (first names, but only if you want to name them)

I would invite- in the order from earliest to latest

Linda, Robin, Pam, and #4 has to be a tie, so mine would be a little different- "six star weekend!" Catherine and Stacy

It would be at the beach, in the summer. What fun we would have!  Smiley Happy

Mine would be 1 star.  My husband!  Don't have friends from the other phases.  It's what it is when you are old and the past is far away in time and distance.

I read it in alsmost one sitting. Thought it was a very interesting premise.

I do not know who I would invite from each section of my life but it gives one pause to think about all the aspects of ones life and all that you do and all that you meet in life.

I read this book as soon as it came out and loved it.  I thought that this was her last book before she retired?  So happy if one more is coming.  I have read them all.  I guess I can go back and start from the beginning and read them all again for nostalgia.

I have been doing something similar to this for the past 7 years.  It started with a group of 6 and I knew 3 of them but not the others.  We spend 4-5 days at a lake house and one time we spent a long weekend at Saratoga Springs.  We have such a wonderful time and laugh, see a show, play games, swim, and of course eat some tasty meals that we all pitch in to cook.  Dinner out at least one night.  Can't wait for our trip this year!  I can't wait to read the book!

That title has been appearing on many suggested reading lists.

I'm in the minority. I've read all of her books.  This was a disappointment to me. Without giving away spoilers, please, is it even possible you would extend an invitation to someone you've only corresponded with online? JMHO, not one likeable character. I skimmed the last 3rd of book. Happy for all who enjoyed it!  Woman Happy

Also, I was with my husband for so long(50 years) that he fit into each time slot Heart

I’ve read all her books; did not care for this one at all. No depth to the characters and felt like she just wrote quickly to sell a book.
