************SPOILERS***********
Stephen King outdid himself with End of Watch, the third and final book in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy. I loved it, but I have a question.....
When Brady was shot and killed, he had taken over Dr. Babineau's mind and body. So, who died? Was Brady's body still languishing in the hospital? That part was confusing to me. But I loved it so much!
Also, do you find that when you're staring at your electronic devices now (Kindle or whatever), are you thinking of the pink fishes while humming "By the Sea?" I am!
I read or heard somewhere that this book was meant to be Stephen King's last one. I hope not!!!
What did you all think of the book?

Okay, Sunny, this is how I saw it. Brady had committed suicide by taking those pills in the hospital so he died and hopped into Library Al's body. Then he hopped from there into Dr.B and totally took him over until there was no Dr. B left-just Brady's mind occupying his body. How just that he was killed by being run down-talk about coming full circle. I think that's one thing I really like about King is that good always seems to prevail in the end-even if we have to lose some favorite characters along the way.
I was reading reviews for the book on Goodreads and this one woman who reveiwed it had a whole list of things that she cited as "hints" that this would be his last book. If I could remember her name I would direct you to it but you could try looking yourself. Her's was about the third one down when I started reading the reviews. It seems to me that if Stephen King was going to stop writing he would just come right out and say it-not leave all these "supposed" clues.
I must say, that of all the people on the Book Club forum, I follow what you read the most as we seem to have similar tastes. Many of the books that you have read I have on my shelves waiting to be read due to your suggestions. Some I would never have been directed towards otherwise. I like most genres but find that if I have just read something very serious I like to follow it up with a cozy or something on the lighter side. Thank you for volunteering to continue the forum. This is my favorite place to go on this site. I don't always post but I always read the suggestions.
Happy Reading and long may Stephen King write!

Sunny, one other thing. My grandaughter was playing some "fishy" game on her tablet a couple of nights ago and believe me I was keeping an eye on what she was doing! lol
Also, I thought it was strange that a lot of people in the book didn't recognize the "by the sea" tune. That's been around a long time. Probably because they were young they had never heard it.

At one point I wasn't sure I wanted to finish the book. And I kept saying why am I reading King anyway. It's because he is a masterful story teller. I had to keep reading. It ended up really the only way it could but it was handled with great care.
Do you think everyone got rid of the slime that was left in their brains. Surely must have since this was the last story
I have to tell you I gave a little start when that Dory commercial came on tv and I saw that fish. Don't know if I can go to that movie or not. Lol
a very satisfying read.

Hi everyone. I have been eying this thread for at least a week but have only just finished END OF WATCH so I restrained myself.
I was never a Stephen King Fan until I read 11/23/63. I absolutely loved that book. I couldn't believe that the master of horror stories could write such a fantastic book. Then came this trilogy which I also loved. I can't believe some who is this talented will stop writing. I sure hope that's wrong.
Is there anything else of his like these stories?
I am so sorry the book is done!!! LM

Hi @Lilysmom I've been a huge fan since Carrie. Along the way, I've said, "Oh this is my favorite Stephen King book," and then I read another one and say the same thing.
However, after I read 11/22/63, I had to admit this was truly his very VERY best! As soon as I read the last word, I went back and reread the last chapter, slowly, to absorb every nuance of his words. Then, I actually turned to page 1 and started reading again. After reading a few chapters, I realized that it was ridiculous to read it again, so I reread the last chapter yet again.
Yes, it was my very favorite!
However, I did enjoy this trilogy very much. This was like reading the original Stephen King. All three books were such a treat!
As far as other books of his that were like the trilogy, I would have to think. Of more recent books, I enjoyed Revival, but then again, I've enjoyed almost all of them!

@sunala, thanks for the comments. I read Revival too and liked it. Hope the rumor that he is finished writing is false. Looking fwd to more!!! LM

I loved the trilogy! I have read many of King's books, not every one, but I do think he is a masterful storyteller. When he no longer writes, we will have a huge void!!

@sunala, it is said this is to be a TV series ...
I read in Following the Nerd that:
"We are hearing that Hodges will be played by the legendary Brendan Gleeson, while killer Hartsfield was set to be played by the late Star Trek star, Anton Yelchin and will now be played by Penny Dreadful star Harry Treadaway.
Ally McBeal showrunner David E. Kelley will serve as showrunner on the series, which is being produced by Sonar Entertainment. Jack Bender (Lost) is set to direct."
Wikipedia stated:
"As of May 2016, Stephen King said that the series has been "back-burnered". However, on May 26, 2016, David E. Kelley announced that the series 10 episode series was ready to go and will air via AT&T Universe and Direct TV. Kelley is still slated to serve as producer and show runner alongside Jack Bender. The series is slated to debut in 2018."
